Performance OpportunitiesThere are many performance opportunities in the CCC Music Department. Music students learn the fundamentals of good tone production and proper playing technique while playing as an ensemble member and as a soloist with the group. Through tape auditions, talented students may be selected to perform with the Kansas Association of Community Colleges’ annual Honor Band. Some students also may audition for the orchestra which provides the music for the fall theatre production. Symphony of WindsThis school year's Symphony of Winds will be held on February 14, 2008. High school students from across southeast Kansas annually participate in the Dale Casteel Memorial Symphony of Winds. This all-day clinic has a memorable history spanning more than a quarter of a century and brings together more than 200 selected musicians who have an opportunity to play music they might not be able to experience in their own high school bands. In addition, a guest clinician works with the high school musicians during the all-day clinic and conducts the mass band in an evening concert. Previous guest clinicians/conductors include Jim Swearingen, Quincy H. Hilliard, David Shaffer, and Mike Story. Student RecognitionMembers of the Coffeyville Community College bands annually honor two bandsmen by selecting an Outstanding Freshman and an Outstanding Sophomore. The honorees are announced at the annual spring instrumental concert. FacilitiesThe Instrumental Music Department at Coffeyville Community College is a place to explore your musically creative side. The Music Department is located in Nellis Hall. The building has an acoustically designed, state-of-the-art band room. Also in this building is a soundproof practice room and a computer lab for fine tuning your music skills and to assist your music composition. Band/Instrumental Music
