Students selected as All-American livestock judgersCoffeyville Community College students, Ryan Page of Parsons, Kan. and Cody Sloan of Cameron, Mo. were selected as All-American Livestock Judgers at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this spring. In only its fourth year of honoring students in this regard, the Junior College Coaches Association chose 15 students from 300 potential applicants from over 30 different junior colleges across the country. Page and Sloan were selected based on their academic success and judging performances. Half of the judging is based on grade point average while the other half comes from their performances at six national livestock judging contests including the American Royal in Kansas City, Kan.; the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ken.; the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo.; the Southwestern Livestock Exposition in Fort Worth, Tex.; the San Antonio Livestock Exposition in San Antonio, Tex. and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston, Tex. Sloan completed his academic career with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He was the second high individual at San Antonio, fourth high individual at Houston and eighth in Denver. Page was fourth in Dallas, fifth in Denver and 10th at the Express Ranch contest. He completed his academic career with a 3.81 GPA. “This is truly an outstanding accomplishment for both of these young men,” said CCC Livestock Judging Coach, Brian Anderson. “They have worked very hard for the accomplishments they received. It also says a lot for our judging teams in general and our other sophomores. I have had very few groups of kids that were such good friends but pushed each other to excel academically and in judging. This award that Cody and Ryan received is what we want students to expect to receive when they come to CCC.” Sloan and Page plan to attend Texas A&M in the fall and participate on the Aggie Judging team.
