Baseball Coaches
Head Coach Ryan McCune
Ryan McCune, a Glenpool, Oklahoma, native played at Connors State College in 1992 and 1993 with those teams going a combined 103-18. He was all-region catcher in 1993, the year that Connors was ranked #1 in the country throughout most of the season. He then went on to play at Missouri State University, and helped lead them to their first NCAA Division I regional appearance in Fresno, California. Upon finishing his playing career, McCune spent a season as a graduate assistant under Steve Bever at Pittsburg State University where he worked with the catchers. McCune then went back to Connors State to serve under his mentor, Perry Keith, as a pitching coach. Connors went 141-41 in those three seasons and the team was ranked in the top ten in the country all three years. He then went on to Garden City Community College and worked for Todd Briggs as a hitting instructor. The Broncbusters where in the top five in the country in home runs and team batting average. That summer, he got a taste of his first head coaching experience, leading the Nevada Griffons in the NBC tournament. McCune was then hired by Fort Scott Community College to be their head coach, succeeding Dave LaRoche, former Major League Baseball pitcher who took a job in the Kansas City Royals organization. McCune's 2002 team went 29-21 and finished third in the conference. It was also Fort Scott's first winning season in seven years and McCune was named KJCCC East Coach of the Year. The following year, the Greyhounds finished in third place, just two games behind conference champion Neosho County. In July of 2003, McCune was hired to take the reins of the Red Raven program. In 2005, McCune's Red Ravens broke the school record for wins and was the first above .500 season in school history. In 2006, the Ravens posted their second straight above .500 season and also finished above .500 in conference play for the first time in school history. The Ravens also made their first appearance in the Region 6 Tournament in Wichita. McCune earned a B.S. degree from Kansas State University.
Andy Morgan, a native of Manhattan Kansas, enters his second year with the CCC staff. He is the recruiting coordinator and serves as the Ravens hitting and infield coach. In his first year at CCC, Morgan was the infield coach and assisted with hitting and recruiting. Coach Morgan played at Cowley County before transferring to Park University (Parkville, MO), where he finished his playing career and received his bachelors degree in Business Administration/Marketing. Coach Morgan is an assistant coach for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League.
Troy Morgan, a native of Manhattan, Kansas, enters his first year with the CCC staff. He will serve as the outfield coach and assist with recruiting and hitting. Coach Morgan played at Barton County before transferring to the University of Kansas to finish his education. He graduated from KU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Morgan is also an associate scout for the Washington Nationals. |
