Ravens fall to Hutchinson in game three of playoff series
The Red Ravens ended their 2008 season on May 4 with an 11-3 loss to
Hutchinson in the third and deciding game of the first round Region 6
playoff series with the Blue Dragons. The Ravens end the season
17-28. The Ravens were 12-11 in their last 23 games after getting
off to a slow start in February and March.
Ravens splits first two playoff games with Hutchinson, game three Sunday
The Red Raven baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with
Hutchinson in first round of the Region 6 baseball playoffs.
Hutchinson won the first game 8-3 before the Ravens staved off
elimination with a 3-2 win in the second game. A deciding third
game of the best of three series will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. in
Hutchinson. The winner will advance to the Region 6 Baseball
Tournament in Wichita, May 10-14.
Ravens split with Labette, play at Hutch in region first round
The Ravens split with Labette at home on April 28. The Ravens won
the first game 7-1, but dropped the second contest 2-1. The loss
left the Ravens with the seventh seed in this weekend's Region 6 first
round playoff series. The Ravens will travel to Hutchinson to play
the Blue Dragons in a best of three series starting on Saturday.
Two games will be played Saturday and a third and deciding game, if
necessary, will be played on Sunday. The first game of two on
Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. All playoff games are nine inning
contests. The winner of the series will advance to
the Region 6 Baseball Tournament to be played in Wichita May 10-14.
Ravens win three of four, clinch region berth
The Red Raven baseball team won three of four games on Friday and
Saturday and clinched a spot in this weekend's region tournament.
The Ravens split with Cowley on Friday, winning 3-1 in the first game
before losing 7-2 in the second. The Ravens swept Kansas City on
Saturday, winning 4-2 and 6-5. The Ravens, 15-19 in conference
play, will end the conference season on Monday when they host Labette
for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Walter Johnson Park in
Coffeyville. The Ravens, 10-6 overall in their last 16 games, will
have either the sixth or seventh seed for the KJCCC East in this
weekend's first round of the Region 6 playoffs. The Ravens will face Barton County in a
non-conference match-up on Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
in Great Bend. The first round of the Region 6 playoffs are a best
two of three series with the highest seed hosting. The first two
games will be played on Saturday, May 3, with the third and deciding
game, if necessary, being played on Sunday, May 4.
McCune
sets all-time coaching win record at CCC
With Coffeyville's 18-16 win in the first game of a double-header
against Labette at Parsons, Kansas on April 20, Ryan McCune earned
career win number 90 as head coach at CCC. The win also moved
McCune past Dave Teske as the winningest coach in Red Raven history.
McCune is in his fifth year as head baseball coach at Coffeyville.
He is also the only coach to post .500 or above seasons in CCC baseball
history. The Ravens finished 28-25 in 2006 for the first above
.500 year in CCC history and followed up with a 22-22 mark in 2007.
Ravens win three of four this past weekend
Although the Ravens had some last minute changes to the weekend
schedule, they were able to win three of four games. The Ravens
canceled Saturday's schedule games with Pratt and hosted Johnson County
in conference make-up games. The games were played at Independence
due to wet conditions at Walter Johnson Park. The Ravens won the
first game 8-7, but dropped the second 17-0. The Ravens then
traveled to Parsons for a double-header with Labette. The Ravens
got the bats out and took advantage of the wind blowing out, winning
18-16 and 12-8. The Ravens will host Independence on Tuesday with
the first game of two starting at 4 p.m. The Ravens will then host
Labette on Thursday at 2 p.m. The weekend schedule is still up in
the air. The Ravens still need to host Cowley and play at Kansas
City before the April 29 deadline for the completion of conference
games. The schedule continues to be tweaked, but the latest known
itinerary is online. [Updated 2008

Ravens
pull off pair of weekend double-header sweeps
The Ravens might be awakening. The Ravens pulled off a pair of
doubleheader sweeps this past weekend and are now within shouting
distance of .500 in conference play. The Ravens won a pair at
Highland on Saturday, 10-9 and 3-2, and then came home on Sunday to take
two from Neosho County, 10-0 and 9-4. The Ravens are now 9-13 in
conference play and have moved into seventh in the KJCCC East. The
Ravens have battled a slow start after spending the majority of the
season recovering from flood damage that affected practice facilities at
Walter Johnson Park in addition to the ballpark on the east side of
Coffeyville. The Ravens will attempt to stretch their four game
winning streak on Tuesday when they face Labette at 2 p.m. in Parsons
for a doubleheader. The Ravens welcome Cowley to Walter Johnson
Park on Thursday for a twinbill starting at 1 p.m.

He also hopes the team will throw and catch as well during the baseball

2007 and was a second team all-conference selection. Roberts was
drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2005 amateur draft, but opted to
play for CCC.
