LaTisha McFarthing-Davis named new Red Raven Dance Coach

LaTisha DavisLaTisha McFarthing-Davis accepted the head dance coach position with Coffeyville Community College in January 2010.  Davis has been dancing most of her life.  She received formal dance training from the Kansas Dance Academy (ballet, jazz and modern dance), Buckner Performing Arts (ballet and jazz), CPPI (modern, hip hop), Wichita State University (hip hop) and from a number of camps designed for professional dancers, choreographers and collegiate dancers.  Davis had used her training as she coached at Southeast High School in Wichita, Andover Middle School, as the Dance/Cheer Coordinator for the Andover, Kan. YMCA and as the dance team director for the Wichita Wild football team.  Davis has also served in cheer and dance positions for the Macon Knights (Georgia) Arena Football League team, the YMCA in Warner Robins, Georgia, the Wichita Warlords football team and the Wichita Wings professional soccer team.

In the future, Davis sees the Red Raven dance team members growing as dancers in all disciplines of dance, continuing to develop their technique and becoming tough competitors at the NDA national in Daytona Beach, Florida.

“Premiere (the men’s dance team) has quickly become a fan favorite and offers innovative and different styles of dance to entertain the crowd,” said Davis.  “They are a great bunch of young men and very passionate about performing.”

Davis intends to grow the CCC dance program to 50 participants.  She would like to have the dancers split into a pom squad (beginning to intermediate dancers) and a performance squad (intermediate to advance dancers).

“This will give dancers of all levels a chance to participate,” said Davis.  “I would like to see a winning tradition started at NDA nationals.”

“I enjoy watching and helping students grow and become well rounded dancers,” she said. “I have been very fortunate to continue my passion for dance through coaching.”
