Tony Jeffery

Running Back (1989-1990)

The sparkplug of the 1990 National Championship football team was Tony Jeffery from Berkley High School, St. Louis, MO.  In two years for the Ravens he rushed for 1396 yards scoring 22 touchdowns, and had 16 receptions for 365 yards and three touchdowns.  His greatest performance was in the National Championship game where he rushed 23 times for a record of 283 yards and two touchdowns.  He was selected Most Valuable Player in that game.  Tony received two of the top post-season honors by being selected as the Most Valuable Player and Team Captain.

Tony transferred to the University of Arkansas where he was the second leading rusher on the team. However, he suffered a career-ending knee injury during his senior year.

After graduating from Arkansas, Tony met his wife, Candace, and became the stepfather of her two girls, Raven and Lean Garrett.  He accepted the calling to the ministry and is involved in ministering to youth.  He is currently employed by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  He volunteers his time coaching Little League football, baseball and basketball.

In a recent interview Tony stated, “Life has it’s ups and downs.  I had the opportunity to be a living organ donor.  On January 19, 2000, I donated a kidney to my mother.  Everything was fine, but then her body rejected the kidney.  My mother is doing fine now, and our bodies and hearts are healing.” 

On his time in Coffeyville, Tony reflects, “I feel blessed to have had my experience in Coffeyville, Kansas.  I consider it to be one of the many high points of my life.  There isn’t a day that goes by that my time as a Red Raven doesn’t bring a smile to my face.”

Red Raven fans will forever talk about Tony Jeffery and the afternoon he led the Ravens to a National Championship.
