R.C. Brown
Offensive Lineman (1961-1962)
R.C. was born in Newcastle, OK, and attended high school at U.S. Grant in
Oklahoma City. From the seventh grade thru his junior year in high school
he was coached by former Raven Coach Bill Mills. He played offensive tackle
and nose guard in high school being selected first team All-Conference. He
was also a top heavyweight wrestler and won conference, city and regional
championships and took third in the state his senior year.
R.C. Brown followed Bills Mills to Coffeyville and played both offensive
tackle and nose guard for Head Coach Dean Pryor his freshman year. Coach
Mills became the head coach R.C.’s sophomore year. In the two years R.C.
played for the Ravens, they were 17-4.
He was selected as a first team All-American on the defensive team by the
Los Angeles Times and the All-American Index of Glendale, CA. During this
period of time all junior college players, both NJCAA and California, were
on the All-American teams.
R.C. finished his college career playing at Wichita State University
where he played both as offensive guard and nose guard. After he finished
at WSU, he played in the old Continental professional league for three years
and in Canada for one year.
After finishing his professional career, he went to work for the Coleman
Company in Wichita, KS, where he worked for 12 years. The past 14 years he
has taught at the Wichita Technical School in the Adult Education
Department.
R.C. has a son and daughter-in-law, Tania and Trey, daughter and
son-in-law, Dave and Shauna, and one grandson, Nathan. |
