CCC offering DVDs of football games from 1975 to
current
Are
you a former player or a diehard Red Raven football fan who would love
to access footage from favorite games or seasons? If you are, then you
are in luck.
Coffeyville Community College is offering for sale
DVDs of any football game since 1975, according to athletic director
Jeff Leiker. The DVDs are produced from converting the old reel type
film or VHS tape of original game tape footage to DVD format. Each game
will cost $25 and the fee covers the cost of converting the footage to
DVD.
To order a game or several games, please contact Jeff Leiker at
620-252-7147 or via email at
jeffl@coffeyville.edu and detail the games you wish to
receive. Coach Leiker will get back in touch with you to verify the
order and to arrange payment.
Former
Raven Devin Thomas selected in second round of NFL draft

Former Red Raven wide receiver Devin Thomas was selected in the
second round of the NFL draft by the Washington Redskins on April 26.
Thomas, after being redshirted in 2004 at Coffeyville, led the Ravens
with 33 receptions for 674 yards in 2005. Thomas also returned 15
kickoffs for a 22.6 yard average as a Raven in 2005. He
transferred to Michigan State and after playing sparingly his sophomore
season in 2006, lit up the Big Ten in 2007.
The second-team
All-Big Ten Conference choice set
the school single-season record with
79 receptions in 2007. He started
all 13 games at flanker, as his
1,260 yards receiving rank third on
MSU's annual record list. He had
eight touchdown grabs, rushed 27
times for 177 yards (6.6 avg) and
averaged 2.6 yards on seven punt
returns. He attempted one pass and
set a Big Ten single-season record
with 1,135 yards on 39 kickoff
returns (29.1 avg), as his 2,590
all-purpose yards set a school
record.
High school seniors commit to
Coffeyville
Around
40 high school players from Kansas, Texas, and
South Carolina have committed so far to the Red Raven football
program. Many other seniors will sign on the dotted line in the
next few days. Check back often for additional signees over the next few
days.

Former
Raven Brandon Jacobs key player for Giants in Super Bowl
Few prognosticators gave the New York Giants much of a chance
against the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII on February 3,
but the Giants pulled off a huge upset. The Giants' win made a
Super Bowl Champion of former Red Raven running back Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs, who played for the Ravens in
2001 and 2002, rushed for 1,009 yards in 12 regular season games for the
Giants in 2007. Jacobs rushed for an
additional 155 yards in three playoff games and ran for 42 yards in the
Super Bowl victory. Jacobs had a stellar career at CCC. A
two-year starter for the Ravens, Jacobs rushed for 1,151 yards in 2001
and for 1,881 yards in 2002. He scored 36 career touchdowns at CCC.
Jacobs played at Auburn in 2003 before transferring to Southern Illinois
University for his senior season in 2004. He was a fifth round
draft pick by the Giants in the 2005 NFL draft.
CCC names Darian Dulin as head football coach
Darian Dulin, the assistant head coach and defensive
coordinator for the past three seasons at Tarleton State University in
Stephenville, Texas, has agreed to take the head football coach position
at Coffeyville Community College. Dulin replaces former head coach Jeff
Leiker. Leiker assumed the athletic director's position at Coffeyville
in November after serving as head coach of the Red Ravens the past seven

Raven football fills out coaching staff with hiring of
Wiemers and Powers
The Red Ravens filled two assistant coach openings with
the hiring of Jon Wiemers and Jared Powers. Wiemers will serve as
the Ravens' offensive coordinator while Powers will handle the offensive

Several players from the 2007 Red Raven
football team have signed with 4-year schools at the conclusion of the
football season including Nate Guillory with Iowa, Troy Epps with Florida,
Larry Ford with West Virginia, and Melvin Williams with North Carolina.

Three Ravens named to All-American team
Three Red Raven football players were named to the NJCAA All-American
team. Running back Nate Guillory, defensive lineman Troy Epps, and
defensive back Melvin Williams were each named as honorable mention
selections. The entire NJCAA All-American list can be viewed on
the
NJCAA web site.
Fund established for former Raven Siran Stacy
A fund has been established for former Red Raven running back Siran
Stacy. Stacy was involved in a tragic accident on Nov. 19 which
killed his wife and four of his children. Siran survived the
accident along with a three-year-old daughter. For more

Leiker steps down as Head Football Coach, takes
Athletic Director's position
Coffeyville Community College’s Head Football Coach Jeff
Leiker has stepped down from his position after serving seven years as
the Red Raven head coach. Leiker leaves the head coaching position with
a 56-24 record (.700 winning percentage). The College will begin its
search for a new head football coach immediately. [more]

Fourteen Red Raven football players received all-conference honors
for the 2007 season. Those selected for the first team included:

KUSN, 98.1 FM, announces live streaming of Red Raven football and
basketball games
The
radio home of Red Raven sports announced they have completed upgrades to
their web site including live streaming of Red Raven basketball and
football games. According to John Leonard, station manager,
streaming will begin with November 3's basketball games with Butler and
November 4's football game at Butler. A link to the streaming
audio of live games will be available at

Football team volunteers for
several college and community projects
Best known for their blocks, long passes and touchdowns, the
Coffeyville Community College (CCC) Red Raven Football team has been
called on to help with a variety of volunteer projects from moving
campus offices to gently placing hundreds of special luminaries. [more]
Reggie
Nelson taken in first round of NFL draft; Soliai and Goldson taken in
fourth round
Former Raven Reggie Nelson was selected in the first round of the NFL
draft on April 28 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Nelson originally
attended Coffeyville Community College and played for CCC during the
2004 season when he registered a team-high 72 tackles, six interceptions
(one returned for a touchdown), two fumble recoveries, and four blocked
kicks. He transferred to Florida in January of 2005 and then appeared in
11 contests (four starts) before tearing a knee ligament during bowl
practice which required surgery, finishing the year with 46 total
tackles, four tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one pass defended,
and one interception. In 2006, Nelson became a first team All-American
after starting all 14 games and recording 51 total tackles, two tackles
for loss, six interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), five pass
breakups, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks. He also returned
12 punts for 93 yards in 2006. [more]
Story of the Raven
Legend has it that Melvin Drake, a sports reporter for The Coffeyville
Journal in 1925, called the football team the “Ravens” because they were so
lean in their winnings. Later, Shorty Crone, Journal sports editor, said
the Ravens were red faced over their losses. Thus, the name Red Ravens.
True or not, no one seems to know for sure, but the College Dial, a former
CCC magazine, vouched for the story in two different editions in 1948 and
1956. The official Red Raven used today was drawn in 1946 by CCC alumnus
Dale Misch, who now lives in Estes Park, Colorado. External Links:
