Nate Guillory rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns and scored another TD on a kickoff return as the Ravens ran wild in a 51-27 victory over Air Force Prep on September 22. The win improves the Red Ravens to 3-2 overall on the season. The Ravens got off to a quick start as Guillory ran the game opening kickoff back 80 yards for a touchdown. Lucas Ortiz's extra point gave the Ravens a 7-0 lead before either offense hit the field. The Ravens were just in the beginning of a series of big plays that would give them a commanding lead into halftime. Guillory made it 14-0 Ravens when he broke free on a 54 yard scoring run with 10:54 left in the first quarter. Bryant Williams would get into the big play act when he hauled in a beautiful 62 yard touchdown pass from newly-appointed starting quarterback Nick Hardesty with 5:20 left in the first quarter. Ortiz missed the extra point, but the Ravens had a quick and comfortable 20-0 lead. Keeping with the big play theme, Sherdeill Breathett got the defense involved in the scoring when he intercepted Air Force Prep's Tim Jefferson and returned the ball 57 yards for a touchdown. Ortiz's extra point was good, giving the Ravens a 27-0 lead with 12:43 remaining in the second quarter. Air Force Prep would get on the scoreboard with 9:06 left in the first half when London Lomax scored on a 36 yard pass play into double coverage from Jefferson. Christopher Gorham's extra point trimmed the Coffeyville lead to 27-7. The Ravens wouldn't have to wait long for an answer. On the first play from scrimmage following the kickoff, Guillory broke free once again and scored on a 58 yard touchdown scamper. Ortiz's extra point gave the Ravens a 34-7 lead with 8:49 left in the first half. Air Force Prep followed the touchdown with a prolonged drive of 13 plays and 53 yards, but the drive stalled on the Ravens 24 yard line. Coffeyville would run out the clock on the first half and headed to the locker room with a 34-7 lead. Air Force Prep emerged from halftime with a sense of urgency and marched down the field on an 11 play, 66 yard drive to start the second half. Stevie Jones capped things off with a seven yard run and Gorham's extra point made it 34-14 Coffeyville. Coffeyville opened their first drive of the second half with great field possession. The Ravens started on the 50 yard line after Guillory returned the kickoff 28 yards. Coffeyville drove to the Air Force Prep 18 before setting for an Ortiz 35 yard field goal, giving the Ravens a 37-14 advantage. Air Force Prep would make things interesting later in the third quarter. The Huskies cut further into the lead when Jefferson scored on a three yard run. Gorham's extra point made it 37-21 Ravens. Coffeyville would ice the game in the fourth quarter. Air Force Prep would start the fourth quarter pinned back on their four yard line and on a third down and 10 play, Huskie's quarterback Jefferson fumbled on the tail end of a seven yard carry. The Ravens' Dwight Tenpenny recovered the ball and four Dustin Lindsey rushes later, the Ravens scored a momentum changing touchdown. Ortiz's extra point made it 44-21 Coffeyville. Guillory would put the game on ice with 3:40 remaining in the contest when he broke loose again, this time for a 60 yard touchdown run. Ortiz's extra point gave the Ravens a commanding 51-21 lead. Air Force Prep added a late touchdown when Dallas McCutcheon scored on a 15 yard running play. The two-point conversion failed. After the kickoff and one Coffeyville running play, the Ravens had a 51-27 victory for win number three on the season. In addition to Guillory's 224 rushing yards, Lindsey added 61 yards on 13 carries and A.J. Evans rushed for 41 yards on 11 carries. Guillory also had four kickoff returns for 142 yards. Hardesty ran for 20 yards on four carries and completed 5-of-9 passes for 90 yards with one TD and one interception. Bryant Williams caught two passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. Tell Wyrick, Ryan Specht and Brandon McCoy had one reception each. Overall, the Ravens rushed for 356 yards on 44 carries and had 446 yards of total offense, by far the best production on the season. Air Force Prep ran for 197 yards and passed for 203 yards on the night. Jefferson was 12-of-27 for 149 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Justin Salum rushed for 81 yards on 11 carries and Stevie Jones had 59 yards rushing on 14 carries. The Huskies had a balanced passing attack with Lomax leading the way with 62 yards receiving. Troy Epps had a big game defensively for the Ravens, recording four solo tackles, eight assisted tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss for 13 yards, a forced fumble and a sack. Austin Stubby and Kunle Kola had eight tackles each. Ade' Manga had seven tackles and a sack, and Melvin Williams had seven tackles. Breathett had five tackles in addition to his interception returned for a touchdown. Josh Garrett had 12 tackles to lead the Huskies and Ronnie Lillard added eight tackles. The Ravens have a bye the week of September 29. They will return to action on October 6 when they travel to El Dorado to play conference leader Butler. Game time is at 7 p.m. The Ravens return home on October 13 when they host the Independence Pirates. Kickoff for that game is at 7 p.m. |
