Ravens fall to Butler in Region 6 playoff game

The Ravens led 7-6 late in the first quarter and trailed by just three late into the third quarter, but Butler pulled away late for a 33-9 win in a game much closer than the final score.

Butler didn't waste much time in getting the jump on the Ravens, scoring on the game's opening possession.  Beau Johnson's one yard touchdown run with 12:10 remaining capped off a seven play, 68 yard drive for the Grizzlies.  A bad snap on the extra point attempt kept the Grizzlies lead at 6-0.

The Ravens would bounce back and take the lead with 5:48 remaining in the first quarter when Dustin Lindsey finished off an 11 play, 60 yard scoring drive with a two yard touchdown run.  Lucas Ortiz's extra point gave the Ravens a 7-6 advantage.

Butler would take the lead for good late in the first quarter.  Butler's Dorian Williams' 53 yard punt return gave the Grizzlies a short field on the Ravens' 33 with 2:04 remaining in the quarter.  Five plays later, Andre Jones would score a touchdown on a three yard pass from Mike Garrison.  The extra point attempt would fail, leaving Butler's lead at 12-7.

The Ravens' defense would dominate play in the second quarter and would even tack on some points late in the half.  With 1:58 remaining, the Ravens' defense scored on a safety when Butler's Garrison was called for intentional grounding while in the end zone.  The two points cut the Butler lead to 12-9 and the score would remain that until late in the third quarter.

With 14 seconds left in the third quarter, Butler's Johnson would break loose for his second touchdown run of the day with a 30 yard burst.  Grady Fowler's extra point made it 19-9 and swung the momentum back into Butler's direction.  Butler would add two fourth quarter touchdowns to put the game out of reach.

Nate Guillory rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries.  A.J. Evans and Nick Hardesty rushed for 42 yards each and Lindsey added the lone Raven touchdown and had 29 yards rushing on the day.  Bryant Williams had a 14 yard rush on the tail end of a double reverse.

Hardesty completed 9-of-24 passes for 65 yards, but had two interceptions on the day.  Landon Murrell was the leading receiver for the Ravens with 33 yards on four catches and Ryan Specht had three receptions for 24 yards.

The Ravens rushed for 195 yards on the game and passed for 71 to tally 266 total yards on the day.  The Ravens won the time of possession battle, holding the ball for nearly 33 minutes compared to Butler's 27.

Unofficially, Ade' Manga had nine solo tackles for the Ravens' defense.  Jamail Berry had six solo tackles and one unassisted tackle.  Troy Epps had five tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack.  Melvin Williams had four tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and a forced fumble.  Dominique Roulack had four solo tackles, one assisted tackle and one fumble recovery.

The Ravens end the 2007 season with a 5-5 record.  The next game will be in August 2008.
