#19 Ravens pull away for 54-12 win over Rochester in North Star Bowl
The Coffeyville Red Ravens scored 37 unanswered points in the final 15:14 to run away with a 54-12 win over the Rochester Community and Technical Yellowjackets in the North Star Bowl on Nov. 21 in Rochester, Minnesota.
Rochester, which trailed 17-0, pulled to within five, 17-12, on Michael Kusnierz’s fourth consecutive field goal with 21 seconds left in the third quarter. The game’s momentum turned abruptly on a questionable decision on the ensuing Rochester kickoff.
Instead of kicking deep, Rochester decided to try for the on-side kick. The ball slipped out of bounds and the Ravens had possession on the Yellowjackets 41 yard line. It took one play for the Ravens’ offense to change the game around 180 degrees. Quarterback Andy Summerlin connected with Quinton Patton on a 41 yard pass play for a touchdown. Coffeyville went for a two-point conversion and Summerlin found Brandon Mosley in the end zone to give the Ravens a 25-12 lead. The snowball was just beginning for the Ravens.
Just 11 seconds into the fourth quarter, John Robles returned a Rochester fumble 45 yards for a touchdown and just over a minute and a half later, Emmanuel Jackson would return another Rochester fumble 72 yards for a touchdown and in the blink of an eye, Coffeyville had a 39-12 lead with 13:08 remaining in the game.
Coffeyville would add on two more to touchdowns, both on Chris Stuart runs, to make the final margin 54-12.
Coffeyville wound up with 353 yards of total offense. Summerlin completed 14-of-19 passes for 258 yards with a passing touchdown and a first quarter rushing touchdown. Patton had four catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Mulku Kalokoh had three receptions for 71 yards to go along with 41 rushing yards on 11 carries. Benji Love had two catches for 59 yards and Eddie Shields had two catches for 21 yards. Shields also ran for 30 yards on four carries. Chris Stuart ran for 20 yards on five carries and two touchdowns.
Coffeyville held Rochester to 211 yards of total offense. The Ravens also forced seven Yellowjacket turnovers. Coffeyville recovered four fumbles and also intercepted three passes on the game. The Ravens only blemish on the game was three fumbles lost.
The Ravens end the 2009 season with a 7-4 record. The next game will be in August 2010.
