Veterans Memorial Stadium opened
for football August 25, 2001 in the “Border Battle” revival versus NEO.
Although the Ravens lost the game, 28-14, the feature attraction for the
night was the stadium. Veterans Memorial Stadium seats approximately 5,500 fans, although opening night drew a crowd in excess of 6,000 people. The stadium features a state-of-the-art artificial surface, similar to those used at several four-year universities. The facility is also known for a pulsating sound system and terrific views of the surrounding area from its hilltop location. The stadium is located just north of Hillcrest Golf Course in Pfister Park on the northern edge of Coffeyville. The best route for non-natives to find the stadium are as follows: From Highway 166 (11th Street, the main business street in Coffeyville) turn north on to Buckeye Street at the stoplight. Continue north until you are certain you are near the edge of the earth. Buckeye will eventually lead into Pfister Park. Continue north through Pfister Park and will find the entrance into Veterans Memorial Stadium. The main parking lot is on the west side of the stadium. The stadium was officially dedicated on July 4, 2001 with a gala fireworks show and a country music festival featuring Ricky Van Shelton.
