Raven golfers open spring season with tourney at Fort Smith

The Red Raven golf team opened the spring 2008 season with a tournament in Fort Smith, Arkansas on Feb. 25-26.  The tournament was played at the Hardscrabble Country Club, a par 70 course designed by renowned golf course architect Perry Maxwell.

The Raven men placed third in tournament.  Tournament host Arkansas-Fort Smith won the event with Southwestern College placing second.

Sophomore Kyler Brown led the Ravens for the Ravens by posting rounds of 81 and 78 for a 36-hole total of 159.  Freshman Eddie Hall shot rounds of 82 and 79 for a 161 total and freshman Brandon Keene shot rounds of 79 and 83 for a 162.  Freshmen Kyle Nash and Lyle Eddy rounded out the scoring for the Ravens with scores of 84-81-165 and 84-83-167 respectively.

The Ravens moved up from sixth place after the first day of the tournament to finish in third place with a strong second round in cold and windy conditions.

"I was very proud of the guys for fighting back in the second round, especially for the conditions we faced," said head coach Bill Williamson.  "That shows me how much they want to compete."

The Ravens return to action on March 16-18 with an invitational tournament in Batesville, Arkansas.
