Coffeyville places 7th in season opener

The Coffeyville Community College men’s golf team placed seventh in the KJCCC Designated Golf Tournament hosted by Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, Kansas on Monday.  Sophomore Kyle Menie was the top Raven golfer, shooting rounds of 76 and 79 on the par 72, 6826 yard course.  Menie’s 155 total was good for a 17th place tie.

Dylan Porter tied for 20th individually with rounds of 78 and 78.  Justin Kent shot a 77 in the opening round before falling back to an 85 on the second round.

“Justin suffered a collapsed lung last spring and he is still feeling the effects of that,” said Coffeyville Golf Coach Bill Williamson.  “He played well the first round, but he started hurting where he had surgery the second round,” said Williamson.

“I wanted to pull him from the tournament, but he wants to play,” said Williamson.  “We’ll have him sit for a couple of weeks.”

Also playing for Coffeyville were Jake Cox and Jake Gladson.  Cox shot rounds of 86 and 79 while Gladson fired rounds of 85 and 83.

Johnson County won the tournament with a 36-hole team total of 588.  Hutchinson was second, followed by Allen County.  Coming in fourth was Dodge City, Kansas City was fifth and Barton County finished sixth.  Behind Coffeyville’s seventh place finish were Independence and Colby.

“We have a lot of work to do,” said Williamson.  “We have to play some catch up.”

Coffeyville’s next tournament will be the season’s second KJCCC Designated Tournament on September 14.  The host course will be Terradyne Country Club in Wichita.
