#11 Ravens win Region 6 Championship for fifth time in six yearsNJCAA Men's Basketball National Tournament Web Site Hutchinson, the site of the NJCAA National Men's Basketball Tournament, has become a home away from home for the Coffeyville Red Ravens. For the fifth time in six years, the Ravens will get to enter the friendly confines of the Hutchinson Sports Arena after defeating Barton County 69-61 on March 13 for the Ravens' fifth Region 6 Championship in six years. The Ravens, 30-4 overall on the season, will play in the first round of the national tournament on March 20. The Ravens will play at 8:30 p.m. against Highland, Illinois, 20-12 entering the national tourney. The Ravens quest for another region championship was in doubt for a half. The Ravens trailed 31-25 at the halftime break, but Coffeyville followed a common pattern of late. The Ravens got off to a quick start in the second half and took the lead two minutes into the second half. The Ravens used clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to ice the game and point the team bus northwest toward Hutchinson. The Ravens got big games from several players. Daniel Payne had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Tarod Sanders also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Barry Eberhardt, the MVP of the Region 6 Tournament, had 16 points and seven rebounds, and Brandon Kennedy came up with 12 points and eight rebounds. The Ravens out-rebounded Barton County by a 48-36 margin. The Ravens also pulled down 17 offensive rebounds, leading to a 16-5 edge on second chance points. The Ravens also made 14-of-15 free throws for a cool 93% effort for the game. Barton County was led by Ivan Evans with 23 points and point guard Omar Evans who scored 17 points. Eberhardt, Payne and J.J. Seymore were all voted to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the championship game.
