Four Red Ravens named All-Conference
Four Red Raven softball players were named to the All-Conference Team
following the conclusion of the 2008 regular season. Catcher
Molly Keeler and utility player Heather
Wallace were both named to the second team. Honorable Mention
selections for the Ravens were shortstop
Brittany Moreno and utility player Chelsea
Walls.
Ravens split with Neosho County
The Ravens got a split with Neosho County on Sunday to end a three game conference
losing streak. The Ravens were defeated 10-1 in the opening game
against Neosho County, but bounced back to win the second game of a
doubleheader 9-5. The Ravens return to action on Tuesday when they
host Johnson County at 1 p.m. at LeClere Park in Coffeyville. The
Ravens will then travel to Highland on Wednesday and compete in the regional
crossover in Dodge City on April 25-26.
Ravens drop slugfests to Seminole
While LeClere Park is not quite like Wrigley Field in Chicago, the wind was
blowing out to left on Saturday afternoon and that established perfect
meteorological conditions for a couple of offensive showdowns between
Seminole, Oklahoma and the Coffeyville Red Ravens. Unfortunately for
the Ravens, Seminole was able to squeak by in both games of the
doubleheader, 7-6 and 9-8.
In the opening 7-6 loss for the Ravens, Brittany Moreno went three for three
with three singles and two runs scored to lead the Ravens' offense.
Chelsea Walls was three for four with a pair of singles, a double, an RBI
and a run scored. Molly Keeler went one for two with two walks and an
RBI. James Banks took the loss, allowing eight hits. Banks
struck out four and hit a batter.
In the second game, Jordan Downing went three for three with two singles and
homer. Downing also drove in two runs. Childers had a solo homer
in three at bats, and Lynsey Marvin went one for one with a single and two
RBIs. Rachel Shipman took the loss with Banks pitching the finals six
innings in relief. Banks recorded four strike outs in relief.
The Ravens, weather permitting and a big if at that, are scheduled to play
on Tuesday, April 8, at 4 and 6 p.m. The Ravens will host Allen County
at LeClere Park in Coffeyville. The Ravens will then travel to
Seminole, Oklahoma on Thursday. The Ravens will play a doubleheader at
Seminole with the first game starting at 2 p.m. The Ravens will stay
at Seminole on Friday and Saturday to play in a tournament hosted by
Seminole.
