Tarayla Merriweather set a new school record in the triple jump
Saturday afternoon at the Dean Pryor Invitational held at Veterans
Memorial Stadium in Coffeyville. Merriweather recorded a jump of
11.29 meters (37'.5") to win the event for the Ravens. The Ravens
also had a national qualifying time from the men's 4x100 meter relay
team. The quartet of Dravis Lawson, Trentell Bottley, Ramon Harris
and Rashad Cannon won the event with a time of 42.14 seconds.
The Ravens had several other notable performances at the Dean Pryor.
For the women:
- Septembra Teuscher took first place in the javelin with a
personal best throw of 39.68 meters (130'2"). Teuscher is
currently leading the nation in this event by over six feet.
Teuscher also set a new personal best in the hammer, finishing in
fourth place with a throw of 27.79 meters (91'2").
- Samantha Howell took first in the pole vault, setting a new
personal best jump of 2.82 meters (9'3").
- Brandy Simpson finished second in the javelin with a personal
best throw of 32.55 meters (106'9"). Simpson also threw a
personal best in the shot put, 8.47 meters or 27'9.5", and ran the
100 meter hurdles in 16.94 seconds. She also cleared 1.35
meters (4'5") in the high jump. This gives Simpson a four
event heptathlon score of 2,018 points.
- Gabby Mask took second place in the 100 meter dash with a
personal best time of 12.24 seconds. She also won the long
jump, 5.08 meters or 16'8".
- Demica Robinson took third place in the 100 meter dash with a
time of 12.34 seconds.
- Christen Hill set a personal best time in the 100 meter dash,
13.24 seconds. Hill took second place in the high jump with a
personal best, clearing 1.45 meters (4'9").
Notable performances for the men included:
- D.J. Bland finished fourth in the long jump with a personal best
of 6.67 meters or 21'10.75". Bland also threw a personal best
in the javelin, 43.27 meters or 141'11", and also set a personal
best time of 11.54 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Bland also
threw 9.55 meters in the shot put and a throw of 25.39 meters in the
discus. This gives Bland a five event decathlon score of 2,804
points.
- Dustin Schull established a five event decathlon score of 2,126
points. Schull debuted in the javelin with a throw of 36.41
meters (119'5"), discus (20.98 meters or 68'10"), and 100 meter dash
with a time of 12.24 seconds. He also jumped 5.51 meters
(18'1") in the long jump and threw 7.86 meters (25'9.5") in the shot
put.
- Cannon finished third in the 100 meter dash with a personal best
time of 10.84 seconds.
- Harris won the 400 meter dash in a personal best time of 22.04
seconds. Harris also set a new personal best in the 100 meter
dash, finishing fifth with a time of 11.04 seconds.
- Rob Gault won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of
10:54.44. Gault also ran a personal best 5,000 meter race,
17:29.
- Seth Freeman finished in fifth place in the 5,000 meter run with
a time of 17:07.
- Aaron Baker set a new personal best in the 5,000 meter run with
a time of 18:41.
- David Tindall set a new personal best in the 5,000 meter run
with a time of 19:21.
- Bottley set a new personal best in the 100 meter dash, 11:14
seconds.
- Lawson set a new personal best in the 100 meter dash, 11:24
seconds.
- Tell Wyrick set a new personal best in the hammer, finishing
fifth with a throw of 39.22 meters (128'8"). Wyrick also set a
new personal best in the shot put, finishing second with a throw of
13.46 meters (44'2").
- Jarve Dean finished third in the shot put, 12.55 meters or
41'2.25".
