Three Raven track athletes qualify for nationals at Johnson County triangularThe Coffeyville Community College track team began the indoor season with a triangular hosted by Johnson County on January 19, and three Raven athletes wasted little time qualifying for nationals. Freshman Rashad Cannon placed second in the long jump, but his distance of 7.30 meters (23' 11.5") was good enough to qualify for the indoor national meet to be held March 7-8 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. Two female athletes also qualified for the national meet. Freshman Tarayla Merriweather placed first in the triple jump with a national-qualifying distance of 11.01 meters (36' 1.5"). Also qualifying was Freshman Gabby Mask in the long jump. Mask jumped a distance of 5.42 meters (17' 9.5"), good for first place in the triangular. Although no other athletes made a qualifying mark at the season opening triangular at Johnson County, the Ravens had some additional first place finishes. Ramon Harris took first in the 200 meters with a time of 22.62 seconds. Other first place finishers were Brandy Simpson in the 800 meters (3:09.39 seconds), Rob Gault in the 3,000 meters (10:08.91 seconds), and DJ Bland in the pentathlon (2766 points). "Our athletes finished the day with many good performances," said assistant coach Heather Schmidt. "Overall, we competed very well with opponents Johnson County Community College and Cowley Community College." Other Raven athletes competing at Johnson County and their results follow:
