Seven Raven athletes compete at Southwestern InvitationalA group of seven athletes competed for the Red Ravens at the Southwestern Invitational on April 26. Freshman Septembra Teuscher continued her strong season in the women's javelin, winning the meet with a throw of 119' 8". Freshman Brandy Simpson took eighth place in the javelin with a throw of 99'. She also threw 25' 4.75" in the shot put. Freshman Demina Robinson recorded a time of 12.74 seconds in the women's 100 meter dash. Sophomore Ramon Harris competed in a pair of events at the invitational. Harris finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.10 seconds, and he took sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.64 seconds. Sophomore DJ Bland set a personal best time in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.44 seconds. Bland also jumped 19' 6" in the long jump and threw 137' 5" in the javelin. Sophomore Dravis Lawson finished the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.46 seconds. The Ravens will be hosting the Region 6 Outdoor Track and Field Championship May 1-3 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. "We hope to take full advantage of this opportunity to compete for the championship at our own facility," said assistant coach Heather Schmidt. The region meet will be the final full squad effort of the season. "Several athletes have qualified for nationals and we hope that even more will qualify this weekend," said Schmidt. The national track meet will be hosted by South Plains Community College in Levelland, Texas, May 15-17. |
