Outdoor track season opens with Southwestern Invitational

The Red Raven track team opened the 2008 outdoor season by competing at the Southwestern Invitational on March 13.  Two athletes, Demica Robinson and Septembra Teuscher qualified for nationals during the meet.

Robinson qualified for nationals in the 400 meter hurdles by finishing the event in 1:08.07.

"The qualifying mark for this event is 1:09.08," said assistant coach Heather Schmidt.  Robinson's time was good for third place at the Southwestern meet.

Teushcer qualified for nationals in the javelin by throwing for a season best 121' 05".  The qualifying mark for the javelin is 119' 10".

"Septembra took first place overall at the meet, finishing nearly two feet ahead of the second place finisher," said Schmidt.

Other Coffeyville athletes competing at the Southwestern meet included:

  • Christen Hill finished sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.32 seconds and placed fourth in the high jump, 4' 8".
  • Samantha Howell finished sixth in the pole vault with a distance of eight feet.
  • Dravis Lawson finished ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.93 seconds and set a season best time in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.58 seconds.
  • David Tindall set a season best time in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:41.79.
  • Nate Rowe established a season best time in the 1,500 meter run, 5:01.94.
  • Rob Gault finished fifth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, 10:44.12.
  • Tell Wyrick finished third in the discus throw, 124' 07", and fifth in the hammer throw, 124' 01".

The team will take Spring Break off before returning to action on March 29 at the Cowley Invitational in Arkansas City, Kansas.  The Ravens will then host the Dean Pryor Invitational on April 5 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Coffeyville.
