Craig Perry is in his second year as Head Track Coach at CCC.  Perry received his bachelor's degree in 2006 from Oklahoma State University.

Perry is a former track star and a 2004 graduate of CCC. 

Perry competed in cross country and ran the 5,000 meters at CCC.  He was also part of the national qualifying 4x800 meter relay team his sophomore year. 

Perry was an Academic All-American at CCC in 2003 and 2004 and was a member on the 2003 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year in cross country.

Perry is married to Michelle (Woolsey), a former distance runner who graduated from CCC in 2005. 

Perry has high hopes for the continued success of the CCC track and field program. 

“I like to win our conference championship within the next couple of years and graduate all of the athletes,” said Perry.

Heather Schmidt enters her second year as an assistant at CCC.  Heather was a three-sport star (track, volleyball and basketball) in both high school at Zanesville, Ohio and in college at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.  As a track athlete, she competed in high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin, shorts sprints and relays.  She was recognized as Academic All-OAC in both track and field and volleyball.  She was selected to the 2004 COSIDA Academic All-District IV Track and Cross Country Team and was also recognized by the OAC as a Clyde A. Lamb award winner, an award given to two athletes from each college in the conference.  She was also named OAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month in April 2004 for achievements in track and field.  Heather graduated from Marietta College as class salutatorian with a bachelor's degree in psychology.  Heather then completed her Masters of Science degree in psychology from Ohio University in 2006.  In addition to coaching, Heather will teach psychology at CCC.  Heather and her husband, Brett, reside in Independence with their three dogs and chinchilla.  Brett graduated from Marietta College in 2005 with an education degree and now teachers kindergarten at Eisenhower Elementary School in Independence.  Both enjoy playing tennis, biking, and taking canoe trips on the Verdigris River.

Robert Wood enters his second year as Assistant Track and Field Coach here at Coffeyville Community College. Coach Wood is originally from Blackwell, Oklahoma.  Wood came to Coffeyville from east rival Cowley County where he built one of the top Juco throwing programs in the country during his six years as an assistant coach, helping the Tigers to two women’s indoor and four outdoor as well as one men’s indoor and four men’s outdoor Jayhawk Eastern Division Conference Championships, three Region VI Championships, and four third place National finishes in six years (Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Men’s Cross Country and Outdoor Track).

Wood will serve as throwing coach for the Red Ravens as well as helping with the multi-events and the Red Raven strength program.

In seven years of coaching, Coach Wood’s athletes have produced:

Coach Wood holds Level I Coaching Certification (general) as well as Level II Coaching Certifications in both throws and jumps through the United States Track and Field Association and is a member of the National Throws Coaches Association.  He holds an Associates of Arts Degree in Community Journalism with emphasis in Television Productions from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, a Bachelors Degree from Tabor College in Social Sciences with emphasis in History, and a Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University in Liberal Studies with emphasis in Health Sciences.

Coach Wood also serves as the Director of Student Life for Coffeyville Community College and is married to his wife Jill. They have a daughter named Jacinda.

Venus is in her first season as an assistant track coach at CCC.  Venus has a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin in sociology and social welfare.

Venus was team captain in Wisconsin in 2007 and 2008.  At Wisconsin, Venus competed in the long jump, 100 meter dash, and was a member of the 4 x 100 meter relay team.  In the long jump, her personal record is 6.18 meters (20' 3.5").  She recorded in 2007 a NCAA regional qualifying mark of 20' 0.5" to finish tenth in the mideast regional.  She placed fifth in the long jump at the Big 10 Conference Championships with a mark of 19' 5".

Her personal best in the 100 meters is 11.62 seconds.  She won the 2007 Badger Classic in the indoor 60 meters with a time of 7.72 seconds.  She helped her 4 x 100 meter relay team to a fifth place finish in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the Big 10 Outdoor Championships.

In high school, she was a two time all-state performer.  She was also named team MVP three times and was a two time team captain. 

Venus was a track club coach for Silver Spring Spartan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2003 and 2004.  She is also a member of Athletes in Action and traveled to Fiji in the summer of 2007 and trained with the Fiji olympians.
