Walker wins national title in 55-metersJulias Walker can rightfully call himself a national champion. The freshman from Houston, Texas, claimed the NJCAA Indoor national title in the 55-meters on Saturday, March 3. Walker finished the race in 6.21 seconds. "He actually got off to a bad start, but came from behind the last 20 to 30 meters," said Head Track Coach Brad Weber. "We didn't know he had won it until they flashed the results five minutes after the race was over." Weber has coached one other national title winner, Coffeyville native Jeremy Hull who won the pole vault in 1999. Walker nearly won a second national title, placing second in the 200-meters with a time of 21.46 seconds. The Red Ravens had other athletes place at the national meet. |

Pole vaulters Joe Pilkington and Phillip Horn placed fifth and seventh respectively. Pilkington vaulted to a height of 4.31 meters and Horn's best effort was 4.16 meters. The top eight in each event earn team points. Coffeyville native Phillip Horn competed in two other events for the Ravens. Horn was 11th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 seconds. In the pentathlon, Horn placed tenth with 3,143 points. Jarell Routt competed in the 55-meter dash, finished 34th with a time of 6.93 seconds. The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Chris Gravely, Dustin Schull, D.J. Bland, and Ramon Harris finished 18th with a time of 3:32.16. The top six individuals in each event are declared All-Americans by the NJCAA. Therefore, Walker makes All-American in the 55-meters and the 200-meters and Pilkington makes All-American in the pole vault. As a team, the Ravens finished in 12th place with 23.50 points. The indoor national meet was hosted by Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. "All the athletes competed very well and represented CCC at the highest standards," said Weber.
