Divas win weekend tournament hosted by Allen

The Red Raven volleyball team took first place in a tournament hosted by Allen County Community College on September 1.  The Ravens got off to a slow start, though.  In the opening match, the Ravens were defeated by Hesston College (26-30, 18-30), a team they would later defeat for the tournament title.

The Ravens bounced back to nip Southeast Nebraska in a pair of hotly contested games (30-28, 30-27).  The Ravens then faced Highland in another nip-and-tuck match.  The Ravens held off the feisty Scotties in a three game match (29-31, 30-18, 15-11).  In the tournament semi-finals, the Ravens faced host Allen.  The Ravens won the first game 30-26 before blowing out the Red Devils in the second game, 30-15, to win the match and a berth in the championship game.

The Ravens faced Hesston for the second time on the day.  The Ravens dropped the first game, 19-30, before taking the second game, 30-28, to force a deciding third game.  Coffeyville and Hesston ventured into a thrilling third game, finally won by the Ravens, 21-19.

The Ravens are now 9-2 on the season and return to action on Wednesday, September 5, in Kansas City.  The Ravens and Blue Devils will begin play at 6:30 p.m.  The Ravens stay on the road until September 24 when they host a triangular with Northern Oklahoma College-Enid and Longview College beginning at 3 p.m.
