#18 Ravens set school win record at home triangular

Record Breaking GroupThe Red Raven volleyball team established a new school record for wins in a season by sweeping two matches at a home triangular on October 20.  The Ravens defeated Pratt in four games to win their 31st match of the season, breaking the previous record held by the 1999 team.  The match against Pratt was also the final district match of the regular season for the Ravens.  The Ravens dropped the first game to Pratt 27-30 before winning the next three: 30-26, 30-20, and 30-23.

"I have some of the most talented, full-hearted players you can ever find," said Head Coach Delice Downing.  "I am so blessed to be in this position."

Following the record setting match, Downing was presented with 31 roses.  Eight of those roses were pink to represent the eight sophomores.  The remaining roses were red.

"I was almost in tears when they presented me the roses," said Downing.

"I don't know what I am going to do without those eight sophomores," said Downing.  "They will always be so close to my heart.  They have blessed be so."

The Ravens also won their second match of the night, defeating the Williams Woods JV in three games by the scores of 30-15, 30-21, and 30-27.  With the wins, the Ravens are now 32-12 overall on the season, 3-3 in district play and 5-3 in conference play.

The Ravens will end the regular season on Wednesday, October 24, when they host Highland at 6 p.m. in Nellis Hall.  Wednesday night will also be Sophomore Night for the volleyball team.  "It will be a treat for everyone," said Downing.
