Ravens win two of three on western trip

Go west, volleyball divas, go west.  At least that's what schedule required of the Raven volleyball team this past weekend.  The Ravens were able to win two of three over the weekend and improved to 13-4 overall on the season.

On Friday evening, the Ravens faced the Butler Grizzlies in El Dorado, Kansas.  The Ravens won a see-saw battle with the Grizzlies 28-30, 30-22, 28-30, 30-26, and 15-10.  Following the match, the Ravens loaded the bus and headed to Dodge City to play in a triangular on Saturday afternoon.

In their opening match, the Ravens dominated host Dodge City, winning in three straight games.  The Ravens won 30-15, 30-23 and 30-26.  The Ravens then played Clarendon, Texas.  The Ravens dropped the first game 24-30, but bounced back to win the second game 33-31.  The Ravens, however, could not pull the match out, losing the final two games by identical scores, 31-33.

The Ravens suffered a blow during the weekend, losing Tagata Fo'a, the team's leading setter, to a high ankle sprain.  "We're hoping she can be back for this weekend's tournament in Johnson County," said head coach Delice Downing.

The Ravens have a busy week ahead.  The Ravens will be at Fort Scott on September 19 for a match beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The Ravens then play at a tournament hosted by Johnson County on September 20-21.  The Ravens return home for the first home matches in nearly a month on September 24.  The Red Raven triangular will begin at 3 p.m. with Coffeyville playing Northern Oklahoma-Enid.  Northern Oklahoma-Enid and Longview College will take the court at 5 p.m. with the Ravens playing Longview College at 7 p.m. in the final match of the evening.  All Red Raven home volleyball matches are played in Nellis Hall, east gym.
