| The Lady Ravens pulled away from Independence
late in the second half to beat the Lady Pirates 60-44 Wednesday night in
a game much closer than the final score indicated. The Lady Ravens trailed 27-24 at the half, committing 17 first half turnovers in the process. The Lady Pirates started the second half with a 6-0 run to take a commanding 33-24 lead before the Lady Ravens' Marquita Thompson nailed a three-pointer at the 14:40 mark of the second half, cutting the Pirate lead to 33-27 and sparking a Lady Ravens' comeback. Coffeyville took a momentary 34-33 lead on an Andrea Dill basket at the 12:41 mark, capping off a 10-0 run. Independence answered with on a traditional three-point play by Ciera Green to retake a 36-34 lead at the 12:21 mark. Two possessions later, Dill gave Coffeyville a 37-36 lead with a three-pointer. After an Independence free throw knotted the score at 37 with 10:19 left, the Lady Ravens went on a 16-1 run and held a commanding 53-38 advantage with just 3:15 remaining in the contest. Thompson scored seven points during the decisive run. Coffeyville coasted the rest of the way for a 60-44 win. Dill scored 17 points to lead the Ravens and Thompson added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Becky Gibson also hit double-figures with 10 points. The Lady Ravens shot 43% for the game and out-rebounded the Lady Pirates 43 to 20. The Lady Ravens, though, turned the ball over 30 times. With the win, the Lady Ravens are 3-0 in conference play and 11-4 overall. On Saturday, the Lady Ravens travel to Parsons for a 5 p.m. game against Labette. The Lady Ravens are back home on Jan. 19 when the team will host Kansas City for a 6 p.m. contest. <Boxscore> |
