Coffeyville 87, Lake Land 61

The Lake Land Lady Lakers were a Kobe short in Friday night's 87-61 victory by the Lady Ravens in the Regal Inn Coffeyville Classic.  In the opening game of the night, State Fair defeated Fort Scott 69-65.

Coffeyville led the Lady Lakers 40-23 at the halftime, led by the strength of 10 first-half points by Parsons, Kansas product Debbie Burris.  Coffeyville was never seriously threatened in the second half and led by as many as 28 points late in the second half.  Andrea Dill scored 14 points and hauled in a team-leading six rebounds to lead the Lady Ravens.  India Reeves came off the bench to score 13 points and Burris finished with 10.  Valarie Mason scored nine points, seven of which came in the first half.  Tamara Vincent, Whitnee Miller, Rudy Crittendon, and Cherene Haynes scored six points each.  Also scoring for the Lady Ravens were Amy Hammond and Marquita Thompson with five points each, Becky Gibson scored three to go along with a team-leading five assists, and Kryssy Jennings and Holly Vandiver each scored two.

For the Lady Lakers, Shanell Tolefree had 14 points, Deanna Morr scored 13 and Jenna Fieldbinder had 12.  Also scoring for Lake Land were Janielle Fritcher had nine points to go along with a team-leading seven rebounds, Rachel Schleef had five, and Jessica Gaesser and Sara Crippes each scored four.

The Lady Ravens shot 49% overall from the field and were a sharp 11-of-16 from the land of three.  Lake Land shot 32% from the field and remarkably enough, had a 17-of-20 versus a 6-of-8 advantage from the free throw line.  Coffeyville is now 2-1 on the season and will entertain State Fair Saturday at 8 p.m. in the second and final evening of the Regal Inn Coffeyville Classic.  The opening game at 6 p.m. will feature Lake Land and Fort Scott.

State Fair 69, Fort Scott 65

The opening game of the Coffeyville Classic was a tight contest that featured a number of ties and lead changes.  State Fair and Fort Scott were tied 33-33 at the half, but a late rally by State Fair was enough to pull off a 69-65 victory.

Brandy Purnell scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds to lead State Fair.  Mahogany Wilson scored 15 and had eight rebounds for State Fair and Sicarra Farris scored 14.

Fort Scott got a double-double from Tewanna Pettigrew who scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds.  Teya Warner was the team's scoring leader with 18 points.  Also hitting double-figures for Fort Scott were Shae Smith with 16 points and Shanise White with 13.
