| Coffeyville won an overtime thriller, 77-73, over
Barton County Friday night in the second game of the Thanksgiving Classic.
In the first game, Eastern Oklahoma defeated Butler County
62-57. Coffeyville trailed 39-26 at halftime and by as many as 17 points early in the second half. Coffeyville's first lead in the game came at the 7:02 mark in the second half. Amy Hammond drained two free throws to put the Lady Ravens up 57-56. The lead jockeyed back and forth until Barton regained a three point lead, 65-62, with 1:54 left in regulation. Becky Gibson pulled the Ravens back even at 65-65 with a conventional three-point play with 1:06 remaining. Andrea Dill then gave the Ravens a 67-65 lead with two free throws with 11.9 seconds left. However, Barton County got the game tied at 67-67 with 2.9 seconds left with a Vivian Ewalefo jumper, ultimately sending the game into overtime. Barton scored first in the overtime when Brianna Buchanan hit a shot at the 4:17 mark. The Ravens got the lead back on two Marquita Thompson free throws and a basket by Gibson. Barton got the game tied at 71-71 on two free throws by Brandi Harris at the 1:44 mark. Gibson hit a lay-up for the Ravens, but Ewaleft answered with one of her own to knot the score at 73-73 with 1:09 left. The big shot of the night, though, belonged to the Ravens Marquita Thompson. With 25.6 seconds left, Thompson made a short jumper and was fouled on the shot. The free throw was good, giving Coffeyville a 76-73 lead. After a missed shot on the Barton County end, Thompson sealed the deal by hitting 1-of-2 free throws with 2.9 seconds left, making the final score 77-73. Coffeyville improves to 6-2 on the season and will face Butler County tomorrow night in the second evening of the Thanksgiving Classic. Tip off is at 8 p.m. Thompson led Coffeyville with 20 points and 11 rebounds, including 10-of-14 from the free throw line. Andrea Dill scored 17 and had nine rebounds. Becky Gibson added 11 points and Cherene Haynes had 10 points and eight rebounds. For the game, Coffeyville made 34-of-44 free throws. Coffeyville shot just 32% from the field as did Barton County. Coffeyville won the rebounding war, 52-51. For Barton County, Vivian Ewalefo had 26 points and 11 rebounds. Victoria Carlile hit double-figures with 14 points and Sunshile Uli added nine. Eastern Oklahoma shot 51% from the field for the game while Butler managed a 34% effort for the game. Eastern Oklahoma also out-rebounded Butler 42-31, but turned the ball over 18 times to just 10 turnovers for Butler County. Yesi Castillo scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Eastern Oklahoma. Kim Hunter added 10 points and Adrienne Barnhill scored nine. Asia Alston had 16 points for Butler County and Charessa Gray scored 14. [ Boxscore ] |
