Clubs and Organizations

Coffeyville Community College offers a full range of campus organizations and activities that contribute to "out-of-class" education.  Each program is designed to meet the needs and interests of the entire student body and is coordinated by a faculty or staff advisor.  Further information concerning organizations and activities may be obtained in Student Services or by contacting the Director of Student Life.  The following major organizations and activities are available: 

Agriculture Club 

The Agriculture Club is open to all students who have an interest in agriculture.  Activities provide the opportunity to develop life-long friendships and important contacts.  In addition, participation in this club encourages personal growth through development of leadership, communication and organizational skills.  Major activities of the Agriculture Club include many social events and field trips involving agriculture. 

Business Professionals of America 

Business Professionals of America is for any student currently enrolled in a business, office or business education course or program at Coffeyville Community College.  The purpose of Business Professionals of America is to prepare students for the business workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.  By integrating its programs into the business classroom, Business Professionals of America encourages leadership, professionalism, poise, dependability, patriotism and competency. 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes is open to any student and is the largest interdenominational school-based Christian sport organization in America.  The organization offers students a venue for fellowship with other Christians and an opportunity to experience the interaction between the group and various speakers. 

Future Farmers of America (FFA) 

The FFA organization is a secondary program offered to freshmen through seniors in high school who are enrolled in the Vocational Agriculture program. 

FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. 

To accomplish this mission, FFA: 

·         Develops competent and assertive agricultural leadership.

·         Increases awareness of the global and technological importance of agriculture and its contribution to our well-being.

·         Strengthens the confidence of agriculture students in themselves and their work.

·         Promotes the intelligent choice and establishment of an agricultural career.

·         Encourages achievement in Supervised Agricultural Experience programs.

·         Encourages wise management of economic, environmental and human resources of the community.

·         Develops interpersonal skills in teamwork, communications, human relations and social interaction.

·         Builds character and promotes citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism.

·         Promotes cooperation and cooperative attitudes among all people.

·         Promotes healthy lifestyles.

·         Encourages excellence in scholarship. 

International Club 

The International Club meets once a month and provides students with a social and learning atmosphere.  At the meetings, students celebrate birthdays, plan parties or trips, volunteer to present programs to the community, express opinions and/or discuss problems.  They can also become part of the "MATCH" (My American Traditional College Home) program.  The goal of this program is to pair each International student with a member and/or family of the Coffeyville area.  This is a great way to share cultures. 

Livestock Judging Team 

Livestock Judging offers many benefits to individuals who participate.  This activity not only improves a person's livestock ability, but also exposes students to many contacts in the livestock industry.  Equally important, this experience helps to refine the decision-making process through making logical, rational decisions based on the information gathered and helps to improve oral, communication and observation skills.  Being involved with the Livestock Judging Team also helps to build self-discipline and self-confidence along with improving leadership skills essential for one to be successful in future careers.  The Livestock Judging Team participates in numerous intercollegiate contests in many different states.  Team members are awarded scholarships, and their expenses for contest trips are covered.  During the spring, members also help officiate at several local field day and district judging contests. 

Meats Judging Team 

Students participating in meats judging are eligible for an activity scholarship which covers expenses for Kansas tuition and loan of books each semester. The meats judging team allows students to participate in several intercollegiate contests including six national meats judging contests.  Students will also help prepare and officiate local meats judging contests during the spring semester.  Meats judging provides students with the knowledge to assess economically important traits in order to determine the value of meats and use subjective evaluation to improve accuracy in carcass evaluation.  Meats judging students will learn carcass evaluation, quality and yield grading, as well as meat identification for beef, pork and lamb.  The meats judging experience will benefit students in their overall understanding of the livestock and meat industry.

College Music Educators National Conference (MENC) 

The College Music Educators National Conference provides students with opportunities to meet leaders in the music profession.  Its parent organization, Music Educators National Conference, is the largest professional music education organization in the world.  Membership is open to any student with an interest in music education. 

Music Ensembles 

Coffeyville Community College has a strong tradition in choral and instrumental music.  The musical organizations making frequent public appearances include the Concert Band, Pep Band, Concert Choir, the Raven Soundsations, and the Madrigal Singers.  These performing ensembles are open by audition to all students.  Many members receive performance scholarships for participating in these music ensembles.

Native American Leadership Association (NALA) 

The Native American Leadership Association is open to any student and will offer a wide variety of activities, events and performances to enhance awareness of the various customs and experiences of the Native American culture. 

Phi Theta Kappa 

The Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international scholastic honor society for community and junior colleges, was established at CCC in the fall of 1949.  Members are chosen on the basis of scholastic achievement.  Initiation and installation of new members is conducted each semester.  Grade requirements for Eta Gamma are among the highest in the nation.  To become members, students at the end of their first semester must have completed 12 semester hours of associate degree course work with a 3.75 grade point average. To become a member at the end of the second semester, a student must have completed 24 semester hours of associate degree course work with a 3.65 GPA, and at the end of the third semester must have completed 36 semester hours of associate degree course work with a 3.5 GPA.  A one-time fee is charged for joining the organization.  Benefits of membership include:  a golden key of Phi Theta Kappa membership pin, member certificate, "Member of Phi Theta Kappa" included on transcript, golden key newsletter, Phi Theta Kappa scholarship directory, automatic nomination for the National Dean's list publication, the privilege of wearing an honors stole at graduation, the opportunity for leadership training and travel to regional and international events.  Eta Gamma is a Five-Star Chapter. 

Rubber Chicken Factory Improvisational Comedy Troupe 

This small ensemble of comic performers performs six times during the school year and tours the Midwest.  To be considered for the troupe one must be enrolled in Improvisation I or II and each class serves as an audition for an individual to perform in the comedy troupe.  The group performs non-scripted, made-up, original sketches and audience participation games created by audience suggestions. 

SkillsUSA- VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) 

SkillsUSA-VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America) provides opportunities for students to develop and enhance the skills they need in order to be successful in future career and leadership endeavors.  Participation in SkillsUSA-VICA enhances maturity, promotes career readiness and provides a smooth transition from a technical school/college, community college, college or university or directly into the workforce. 

The interaction between SkillsUSA-VICA and business and industry is especially meaningful as it allows employers to contribute directly to the students' education.  Through participation in activities, students attain and are able to showcase valuable career development skills to potential employers. In addition, it provides students with challenges, positive role models, personal confidence and meaningful interactions. 

Student Government Association (SGA) 

Many functions of the College are sponsored by SGA.  Not only does SGA govern the student body, it also helps organize and carry out social functions and activities, sanctions clubs and campus organizations and makes policy recommendations to improve student life.  The Student Government Association is composed of two elected officers (a president chosen from the sophomore class and a vice president chosen from the freshman class) and any other student wishing to be a member. A secretary is elected from the membership.  SGA meets bi-monthly. 

Theatre Productions 

The College offers students the chance to work on six plays throughout the course of the school year which includes a musical, student directed one-acts, original plays, new contemporary comedies and dramas and classical plays.  In addition to on-stage acting, students can assist in the technical aspects of theatre.  This course meets every Friday and is required for all students on Theatre Scholarship.  The class is also open to anyone interested in Theatre. 

Varsity Athletics 

Coffeyville Community College is a member of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association.  The Jayhawk Conference offers a complete schedule in football, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, track and field, volleyball, softball, and soccer.  Scholarships are presented to selected athletes who qualify under conference and NJCAA rules.  The CCC rodeo team competes under National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association regulations and students must meet NIRA standards to qualify for scholarships. 

Cheerleading and dance team members are selected annually through a try-out procedure.  Their responsibilities include regular practices, various competitions and performances at most intercollegiate athletic football and basketball games.  Team members follow the same academic and scholarship rules of NJCAA sports.
