ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE STUDENT WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Coffeyville Community College will determine eligibility and appropriate reasonable accommodations or services for academic accommodations in compliance with ADA and the 1973 Rehabilitation Act.  Coffeyville Community College has modified its facilities to accommodate the disabled.  Upon request, classes held at certain locations will be relocated to accommodate an individual whose disability might interfere with taking the course.  Students who have special needs should notify the Admissions & Advising Center at the time of enrollment.

Special Needs and Services

The Director of Academic Advisement will work with the Coordinator of Developmental Studies to advise and provide support services to all disabled/challenged students enrolled at the College.  Any prospective student needing special assistance in order to succeed, or having any disability which may interfere with his or her best performance in course work or prevent access to classes, enrollment or other College services should contact the Director.

ADULT EDUCATION CENTER

Located in Orscheln Hall, one block north of the main campus, the Adult Education Center administers several programs aimed at providing individuals with life skills, workplace skills and survival skills.  Individualized and group instruction is available to maximize learning opportunities.  GED preparation services are provided to area residents.

The Adult Education Center is a vital link between CCC, the community and students in need of service.

ADMISSIONS & ADVISING CENTER

The Admissions & Advising Center at Coffeyville Community College provides information and assists students in their academic decision-making process.  The Center, using the combination faculty and professional advisor model popular in universities and community colleges, is responsible for all advising and recruiting activities, including the following:

  • student recruitment

  • campus tours

  • information packet mailings

  • on-campus recruiting activities

  • ACT/ASSET/COMPASS placement

  • freshman enrollment

  • general education advisement

  • exploratory student advisement

  • transfer advisement

  • freshman orientation

  • advisor training

  • student/advisor designations

The Admissions & Advising Center is centrally located and easily accessible to students. The Center predominantly serves new students, providing tours to prospective students, information packets on request and enrollment services for freshmen.  Students who have not selected a major continue to work with the advisors in the Center while students with declared majors are assigned a faculty advisor after their first semester.  The Center also provides career information, program guides, transfer information and assistance.  It is a place where students feel free to ask questions about everything from College activities and organizations to personal concerns.

CCC has won several national awards for its advising program and dedication to quality advisement.  The Admissions & Advising Center enhances CCC's excellent advising reputation; it is the core of the College - for students, faculty and the community - providing academic information in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere.

The Center, located in Weinberg Hall, is open Monday through Friday.  Transfer resource materials, university catalogs, university program guides, university applications and information are available for student and community use during these hours.  A copier is also located near these transfer resources.

In addition, Coffeyville Community College has signed transfer articulation agreements with the Kansas Regents Universities and several regional institutions of higher learning. An articulation agreement provides for the transition of credit hours from one institution to another through the articulation of courses required for completion of a bachelor's degree.  Currently, CCC has agreements with the six Kansas Regents Universities, Friends University, Newman University, Washburn University, Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri, Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Rogers State University in Claremore and Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas.  Additional information regarding the articulation agreements is available in the Admissions & Advising Center.

Each Learning Lab is staffed with a full-time director who will assess a student’s academic skills to identify areas of needed improvement.  Learning Lab staff will work with students one-on-one, in group settings, and with tutorial software to best address a student’s needs.

LIBRARY

The Russell H. Graham Library is the focal point for learning at the College, and lifelong learning in the community.  Named for the College's second president, the library supports the philosophy and curriculum of the College by providing materials in all subject fields taught.  The collection presently includes 28,000 books, 85 current periodicals, and 3,216 documents on microfilm.  Online resources, accessible on campus, include an online catalog, numerous indexes to general and professional literature, accessed from the library web site www.coffeyville.edu with links to additional resources and information about the library.

The facility is located at the heart of the College campus and offers an attractive study environment, from quiet carrels to comfortable reading areas.  The staff of a librarian and assistants is trained to help students locate and use the resources of the library, to use e-mail and the Internet and to provide inter-library loan when requested.  The collection and services of the Graham Library are enriched by the proximity and cooperation of the Coffeyville Public Library across the street from the campus.

The first floor of the library contains reference books, current periodicals, daily newspaper subscriptions, audiovisual materials and the online resources including computer workstations, designed as an information commons.  The library's second floor houses the circulating book collection, the children's book collection, the College archives, and study carrels.  Books, arranged in Dewey decimal order, check out for 21 days.  Failure to return library materials will result in a hold placed on the student's record that will block future enrollment or release of transcripts until the library obligation is met.  If library material is lost, the cost of the item plus a $20 service charge will be assessed.

The Media Center, adjacent to the Graham Library, provides services to the College and the community, including tape dubbing, lamination and identification cards.  It supports the faculty through scheduling and delivery of audiovisual services and equipment.

The Katherine Hahn-Smith Archives Room, created in 2002 by a donation from a generous alumnus of the College's second graduating class, contains the College archives and provides access to material by appointment with the library staff.

PARKING

Parking for students is located adjacent to each campus.  Students are asked to register their vehicles with the Business Office at the respective campuses.  Resident students also will find ample parking near the Residence Halls on the main campus.  The convenience of parking is just one small example of CCC's commitment to provide access to the community.

SCHEDULE OF CLASSES

Each term's Course Schedule is published approximately six weeks prior to the end of the previous term.  Special courses and continuing education courses may be announced on a per-event basis.

STUDENT AMBASSADORS

CCC Student Ambassadors are a select group of students who assist the recruiting department by giving campus tours, calling and writing prospective students, assisting with on-campus recruiting functions, fostering communication and leadership skills of current CCC students and much more.  Student ambassadors participate in fundraising activities to support campus beautification as well as participate in team building and fun group activities.  These students are required to maintain their own high academic standards.  Students are selected through an interview process in December and compensated for their time.

VOTER REGISTRATION

In compliance with the October 1998 reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, Coffeyville Community College will make available, within 60 days of the voter registration deadline, voter registration forms to all certificate and degree students who are physically in attendance.  Voter registration forms may be picked up in the Russell H. Graham Library.
