CCC Graduation Ceremony Set for May 9

Coffeyville Community College is proud to announce that more than 275 students are eligible to graduate this spring. The graduation ceremony will take place on May 9th at 10 a.m. in the west gym of Nellis Hall at the CCC campus.

Keynote speaker will be Representative Jim Kelly. Kelly is a graduate of Independence High School, Independence Community College, and Emporia State University. He also graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Kelly went to work for Citizens National Bank in Independence in 1969 and continued with the bank when it was converted to Commerce Bank in 1998 and Community National Bank & Trust in 2008. Kelly is currently Executive Vice President of Community National Bank & Trust.

Kelly was appointed to fill the 12th District Kanas House seat in January of 2011. In 2012 and 2014, Representative Kelly won re-election to the new 11th District House seat. Kelly is also the Chairman of the Montgomery County Economic Development Authority, current board member and past president of the Montgomery County Action Council, and Member and Current Chairman of the Mercy Hospital Independence Board.

Kelly is married to Eloise Meyer-Kelly, a Speech Pathologist, and they have one daughter, Beth, who is the Human Resource Director at Medicalodges, Inc. in Coffeyville.

The student address will be given by graduating sophomore Abbie Herkelman. Herkelman is a Coffeyville native and daughter of CCC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jay Herkelman and wife Leslie. Herkelman was a member of the red raven volleyball team for the past two years.
