Tuition Free Technical Programs for Current Kansas High School Students

Excited High School StudentsUnder the Excel in CTE program (2012 Senate Bill 155), tuition is paid by the State of Kansas for current Kansas residents attending a Kansas high school to pursue college level courses in technical fields preparing them for high demand and high wage careers. This program is intended for high school juniors and seniors.

Kansas high school students meeting Kansas residency requirements have opportunities for Career and Technical training at CCC tuition free. 
 
Coffeyville Community College offers several courses/programs that allow high school students to earn their certification prior to high school graduation.  Coffeyville Technical Campus programs that students may enroll in tuition free are:  Information Systems, Welding, Automotive Service, Fire Science, Precision Machining, Collision Repair, Construction, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Certified Nurse Aide.

Programs at the Columbus Technical Campus eligible for this program include Automotive Service, Collision Repair, Construction, Welding and Certified Nurse Aide.

Technical careers offer the student many benefits.  Students reap the benefit of being ready to work in their chosen field in two years or less.  Students receive hands-on training using real tools and technology specific to their field and pertinent to their career.  Flexible programs allow students to go directly to work or continue on toward a bachelor’s degree in a field of their choice.

According to the Kansas Board of Regents, more than 64 percent of future Kansas jobs will require some level of college education. This initiative strives to address the need for a qualified and talented workforce for business and industry, in addition to promoting a strong economy.

  • The high school student is responsible for payment of all program fees, books, and equipment or clothing required for participation in an approved CTE program, unless the school district chooses to pay for these costs.
  • Students must reside in Kansas and attend a Kansas high school.
