Tom Stimpson Scholarship The Emergency Medical Training Program offers two MICT (Paramedic) scholarships through the Tom Stimpson Memorial Endowment. These scholarships are offered on an annual basis and include tuition, books, miscellaneous equipment and fees. Tom Stimpson, EMT, the son of Kaci Mellen, MICT I/C was the victim of a drowning incident in the Verdigris River in September of 1998. He was twenty-six years of age and the father of two children, Garrett and Summer. Garret was a victim of SIDS and died at the age of seven months. Summer lives with her mother in Lawrence and is a frequent visitor of the program. Tom was raised around EMS and EMS training. He completed his EMT education in June of 1998 and was certified as a National Registry EMT-B and Kansas EMT shortly before his death. The scholarship committee reviews all applications. The recipients automatically retain the scholarship as long as they maintain a 3.0 GPA during the MICT training. Interested individuals should complete an application that is available in the Financial Aid, Endowment, and EMT departments.
