Raven Preview Days FAQ

What is it?

If you have applied to Coffeyville Community College (CCC) for the fall 2008 semester, don’t miss the Red Raven Preview Days. This is your opportunity to finalize everything you will need to be ready for a collegiate career in Coffeyville. The day will include placement testing, advising, enrollment, tours, a parent program, and more.

The Schedule

Raven Preview Days for 2008 are scheduled for April 15, April 23, , April 26, April 27, April 29, and June 12.  The schedule depends on which day you attend.

Why parents should come

CCC encourages parents and family members to join their student for Preview Days. We will provide parents and family members with a handbook and contact information. During the Parent/Family program we will discuss the college’s role in your student’s life, provide tips on preparing and then parenting a college student, discuss ways to help your student or family member succeed academically and much more. Representatives from advising, financial aid and housing will be available to answer questions and provide guidance.

Placement Testing

CCC encourages all prospective students to send their ACT scores prior to a Preview Day. Students who have not taken the ACT test will sit for the COMPASS test. The ACT and COMPASS test scores are used for placement in English, Math and Reading. If we do not have an ACT or COMPASS test score on a student, he or she will not be able to enroll in classes. If your student has already taken the ACT and would like to sit for the COMPASS test to work toward a higher score, he or she is welcome to do that. Students who have already submitted test scores are invited to attend the Parent/Family program.

Campus Tours

CCC will offer extended tours during the Preview Days to include the community and all areas of campus. The walking tour will begin at the CCC main campus and include the residence halls, art department, cafeteria, classrooms, bookstore, library, gym and more. Participants will then be transported by bus to the CCC technical campus in Coffeyville, the welding center, greenhouse, sports complex and football stadium.

Advising

Students who have signed with an activity or athletic department at CCC will spend the advising period discussing their course schedule with their coach or activity sponsor. These coaches and activity sponsors will enroll students for the fall semester. All other students will meet with advisors in the admissions/advising center to discuss their individual educational tracks. Students wishing to enroll in summer classes must have a letter from their high school indicating they have met all the requirements to graduate.

Federal Financial Aid

All students applying for a CCC scholarship are required to fill out the Federal Financial Aid application. All students are encouraged to do the same regardless of their scholarship status. CCC recommends that you have completed the FAFSA as soon as your taxes are complete. A financial aid representative will be available during Preview Days to help finalize the financial aid applications and answer any questions. Following are the steps to applying for Federal Financial Aid.

  • Get A PIN

Before beginning the FAFSA, you should apply for a U.S. Department of Education personal identification number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov.  The PIN will allow you to sign your FAFSA electronically and to correct your processed FAFSA information online.  After you receive the PIN assigned to you, we recommend you change it to something easy to remember.  Don't share your PIN with anyone!  If you are providing parent information on the FAFSA, you and your parents must also sign your application.  To sign electronically, your parent must apply for his or her own PIN.

  • Gather the Information Required to Apply

    • Your Social Security number and your parents' Social Security numbers if you are providing parent information.
    • Your driver's license number if you have one.
    • Your alien registration number if you are not a U.S. citizen.
    • Federal tax information or tax returns, including W-2 information, for yourself, for your spouse if you are married, and for your parents if you are providing parent information, using income records for the year prior to the academic year for which you are applying.
    • Records of untaxed income, such as Social Security benefits, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and veterans benefits, for yourself (and for your parents if you are providing parent information); and information on savings, investments, and business and farm assets for yourself (and for your parents if you are providing parent information).

  • Be Aware of Deadlines

You may have to meet application deadlines, depending on your college and where you live.  State and school deadlines are usually earlier than federal deadlines.

  • Use the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet

Your college or high school might have a copy of the Worksheet, or you can print one from www.fafsa.ed.gov.  This Worksheet is optional, but it will help you collect the information you need to fill out your FAFSA online.

  •  Complete Your Application at WWW.FAFSA.ED.GOV

Enter all necessary information.  If you need help, there are help links on each page of the online application.

  • Submit Your Application

After you submit your application, make sure you receive a confirmation number.  This number tells you your application has been successfully submitted.  Keep this confirmation number for your records.

  • Follow Up On Your FAFSA

Your application will be processed and you will receive an e-mail with a link to your Student Aid Report (SAR).  If you did not provide an e-mail address, you will receive your SAR by mail.  You should review your SAR for any necessary corrections and updates.  If you do not hear from us within three weeks, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and select: "Check the Status of a Submitted FAFSA."
