Littlecrow Trading Post at Coffeyville GatheringRepresentatives from the Littlecrow Trading Post in Red Rock, Okla. will display the regalia and clothing they are best known for at the 15th Annual Coffeyville Gathering and Indian Art Market on April 18-19, 2008. Littlecrow Trading Post is located in north central Oklahoma outside of Red Rock. According to their website, the Littlecrow Trading Post “policy for selecting merchandise for Littlecrow Trading Post is that it be culturally accurate and a good value for the customer. The U.S. Congress passed legislation in the 1990s which requires that any artist promoting their handwork as an ‘Indian Made Product’ must be a registered member of a federally or state-recognized Indian Tribe.” Littlecrow Trading Post specializes in regalia of over 24 Woodland, Southern Plains and Southeastern Tribes including Apache, Cherokee, Cheyenne, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Comanche, Creek, Delaware, Hopi, Kickapoo, Iowa and many more. The company creates regalia for a variety of dances including the Southern Straight, Fancy War Dance, Grass, Fancy Shawl, Jingle Dress, Buckskin dresses and leggings and many more. The Gathering begins on Friday, April 18 with a Stomp Dance from 7-11 p.m. The event continues on Saturday, April 19 with a Gourd Dance and Powwow starting at 3 p.m. All events are held in the Nellis Gym of Coffeyville Community College (CCC) at 604 W. 11 St. (Hwy. 166) in Coffeyville, Kan. Vendor space is free with a donation. The Gathering is presented by the CCC Native American Leadership Association and the Coffeyville Public Schools Title VIII and JOM Indian Education programs. Coffeyville Indian Education is funded by two federal grants: Office of Indian Education for $84,101 and Johnson-O'Malley Cherokee Nation Co-Partner Program for $8,500.
