The Coffeyville Community College Meat Judging Team finished their spring season with a strong fourth place overall finish at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  The team received high team honors in meat placing and several other awards recognizing their achievements.  Individually, Chad Vander Linden placed 2nd individual overall, 2nd in questions, 2nd in lamb judging, 4th in overall beef, 5th in beef judging, 6th in pork judging, 9th in total placing and 9th in beef grading.  Jordan Hatcher was 2nd in beef judging, 2nd in total placing, and 9th in overall beef.  Jaclyn Bush was 5th in total placing. Samantha Maddison was 3rd in total placing. Chris Burdick competed in the alternate division.

The team, coached by Kaylee Kerbs and Jake Mikel, spent several hours preparing for this competition.  They traveled to the Cargill Beef Plant in Plainview, Texas to work on beef quality and yield grading.  They also attended workouts at Texas Tech and Texas A & M University meat labs in preparation for the Houston contest.  These students have done a great job representing Coffeyville Community College at contests throughout the spring season!
