Abbott Places 7th Individually at Academic Excellence State Championship

Michael Abbott, Notch Daita and Billy Swindell competed for the Coffeyville Community College in the 2013 Kansas Academic Excellence State Championship on Apr. 6 in Salina, Kan.

Coffeyville Community College's Michael Abbott placed seventh individually at the 2013 Kansas Academic Excellence Challenge State Championship on April 6 at Kansas State University-Salina. Abbott, a sophomore from Great Bend, Kansas, answered 4.67 toss-up questions per game to lead the Ravens team at the state championship. A total of 46 students competed at this tournament.

Academic Excellenge Challenge is a quiz bowl competition among Kansas junior colleges. A total of ten Kansas jucos participate in the activity. Each round of competition at the state tournament consists of 24 toss-up questions. Teams answering a toss-up question correctly have an opportunity to garner bonus points worth up to 30 points per question set.

Teammate Notch Daita, a sophomore from Coffeyville, placed 14th individually. Daita averaged 2.33 toss up questions answered per round. Also competing for Coffeyville was South Coffeyville freshman Billy Swindell.
