Ponca City Wins SEK Marching Invitational

The Ponca City High School marching band took home first place from the 2012 Southeast Kansas Marching Invitational on Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Coffeyville. The Ponca City band finished with a total score of 88.4. The band also received a "I" rating. Ponca City also took home prizes for Outstanding Color Guard and Outstanding Percussion

Placing second were the Bulldogs from Independence High School. The Independence band finished with a total score of 84. The band also received a "I" rating and also received honors for Outstanding Drum Majors, Aidan Goodrich and Zoe McCollam.

Placing third with a total score of 80.3 was Parsons High School. The Viking band also received a "I" rating.

Five high schools received a rating of "II" during the competition on Tuesday. Those bands included Labette County High School, Caney Valley High School, Burlington High School, Riverton High School and Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville.

The SEK Marching Invitational is hosted annually by Coffeyville Community College.
