CCC to Offer Community Interest Classes

Coffeyville Community College is offering a series of short classes on a variety of topics from hobbies to test taking skills.  The following classes are not offered for credit hours but more for personal enjoyment.

The Perfect Image will be taught by Stacia Meek on October 24 and 25 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in Weinberg Hall Room 102.  The class cost is $25.  Students will learn more about photography and how to compose a photograph. This will not be a high-tech session.  The class would be great for novice photographers or those with some moderate skills.

A Writers Workshop will be taught by Mark Frank on October 30 and November 1 from 6:00-800 p.m. in Weinberg Hall Room 107.  The class cost is $25.  Students will learn how to write a book, get it published and first steps to marketing it.  Students will learn how to outline an idea into a story, and some tips and tricks to make writing your own novel or book easier while capturing a large audience for publication. This will be for beginning and experience writers for all types of genres.

Winter Herbs will be taught by Derek Dick on October 30 and November 1 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the College Greenhouse.  The class cost is $25.  Students will learn more about creating an indoor winter herb garden!  Students will leave the class with an assortment of winter herbs to take home and nurture themselves.

Convert Prints to Digital Images will be taught by Stacia Meek on November 7 and 8 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in Weinberg Hall Room 102 .  The class cost is $25.  This class will help you preserve those family memories by converting them to digital images.  The focus of the class will be on scanning pictures.  Participants may also get a sneak peak of family keepsakes (calendars, photo books, etc.) they can create with their new images.  Participants will need to bring a jump drive to store their photos after being scanned.

Household Electrical 101 will be taught by Vivian Frost on November 6 and 13 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Arts & Sciences Building Room 220 then move to maintenance area.  The class cost is $25.  Need to replace a lamp cord or a plug that the wire is frayed?  Maybe you would like to change an outlet or switch?  Students will walk through the basics of some household electrical repairs.

Holiday Photo Gift Making Class will be taught by Jill Koslosky on November 10 from 9 a.m. – noon in Weinberg Hall Room 103.  The class cost is $25 plus the cost of your project.  Learn the basics to get started on a Holiday gift that will be cherished!  Students will go through the basics of scanning, photo editing, layout concepts and design techniques.  Choose to create a holiday card, calendar, photo book, digital scrapbook or canvas print.

An ACT Prep Seminar will be taught by Amy Lumley, Deb Evensvold, and  Stacia Meek on Nov. 12, 14 and 15 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Arts & Sciences Building- Room: 306.  The class cost is $50.  This prep seminar is designed to help students score better on the ACT.  Students will work with staff and their area of expertise to try and improve their logic and reasoning for the exams as well as reduce their test taking anxiety.

Suds Up-Soap Making will be taught by Amy Lumley on November 11 and 18 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the Arts & Sciences Building Room 201.  The class cost is $25.  Would you like to learn more about creating your own suds?  Amy Lumley will lead you through making soap with a mixture of oils and lye.
