Cody Westerhold is taking the lead as the Head Cheer & Dance Coach at Coffeyville Community College.  Westerhold started with CCC in January 2013 as the Assistant Coach and was promoted in August of 2013.  He brings to CCC a vast knowledge of cheer and a focus to the game day experience.

Westerhold’s primary responsibilities include recruiting and coaching the spirit squad which include cheer and dance team members.  He also oversees the mascot, known as Redd T. Raven and trains the persona inside the bird.  He manages the game day scheduling as well as the sideline and half-time activities.  In addition, Cody is teaching Orientation this semester and helping translate for some of our Spanish speaking students.

“I’m really looking forward to building our game day experience for the Red Ravens on the field and the court,” said Westerhold.  “It is important that each member of our cheer and dance teams understand how they can add to our fan’s experience.”

Westerhold’s goals for this year are to increase the squad’s size to put as many spirit squad members into the action as possible.  He would also like to see the cheer squad compete in the new cheerleading sport called Stunt.  Stunt is a new sport for competition-only cheer squads that are pulling the more athletic skills from cheerleading and taking them to competitions.  He is also looking forward to hiring an Assistant Coach with emphasis in Dance to help guide that crucial part of the Spirit Squad.

Westerhold cheered at the University of New Mexico where he also completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  He was a member of the Lobo spirit program from 2003 to 2006, where he cheered at various bowl games, NCAA basketball tournaments and national competitions.  He also coached the University of Oklahoma co-ed and all girl squads for a year and a half before coming to CCC.

Westerhold has also coached with Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) for the past ten years.  At UCA Westerhold is a Head Instructor and spends his summer months instructing both cheerleaders and their coaches about proper technique, rules and standards, new material and safety.
