Payne Steps Out of the Classroom to Run for St. Jude's

Coffeyville Community College Math Instructor Kendall Payne is putting his best foot forward by running the half marathon at the St. Jude’s Memphis Marathon in December.  Payne who is no stranger to running, has been putting extra miles on his running shoes to prepare for his second half marathon.

But this race isn’t just about Payne’s personal goals, he has committed to raise money for the St. Jude’s pediatric treatment and research facility that is battling childhood cancer as well as other catastrophic diseases.  “I wanted to run in a large marathon and the St. Jude Marathon in Memphis was a good fit,” said Payne.  Payne has a fundraising goal of $500 to meet by November 10th.

Payne will travel to the race with CCC students from the Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.  Students go and run the 5K or volunteer to support the event by distributing water along the route.  Race day is December 7, 2013.  “I decided at the end of last year, that I wanted to do another half marathon,” said Payne.  “There are only so many miles left in me.”
