Coffeyville Community College advises the public to be aware of fraudulent checks being written on behalf of the college. The college has been notified that a counterfeiter is using fake look-a-like checks drawn on Banker’s Bank of Kansas, a bank unaffiliated to CCC. The counterfeiter appears to be targeting sellers to target people on Craigslist.

 

The potential victims are asked to cash the checks to receive payment. After depositing the check, the victim is left responsible for the amount withdrawn once the fraudulent check is detected. 

 

The college warns the public to be cautious if receiving checks from an unexpected source such as Coffeyville Community College.  Whenever receiving a suspicious check, contact the bank for which the check is drawn on to verify the validity of that check.
