CCC Freshman Dezirae Hamrick has been selected to participate in the Kakehashi Project, a 10-day study tour of Japan.  The Kakehashi Project is a youth exchange program with Japan that encourages greater understanding between the youth of both countries to foster long-term and ongoing interest in one another by providing first-hand experiences with the culture of the other.

“I am most excited about the opportunity to experience the Japanese culture,” said Hamrick.  “I feel like this will be a rewarding experience and the people I'm going to meet and the connections I'm going to make will last a lifetime.”

Hamrick will travel to Japan and explore the Japanese culture this summer.  The program is a cultural study program and the students will be submersed into the Japanese culture.  They will be accompanied by a bilingual guide.

Hamrick is a 4.0 student who has been very active with the Eta Gamma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.  Hamrick was named the Phi Theta Kappa Member of the Month in March for her leadership and dedication to the organization.  She will serve as the Chapter President for the 2014-15 school year.

“Since the trip was open to all undergrads in Kansas I didn't really think I was a strong contender since I would be competing against students who are older with more experience at other universities,” said Hamrick.  “I was really ecstatic when I found out I made it to the next round and even happier after I found out I was accepted after the interview process. I am so honored to be able to represent CCC, Kansas and the United states during this trip and hope to share what I learn with others in the community.”

Hamrick is employed by Four County Mental Health.  She is the daughter of Mrs. Donna English of Hoyt, Kan. and Dan Hamrick of Dewey, Okla.
