CCC announces new coaches

CCC has new coaches in place to take the lead for Red Raven Baseball, Women's Soccer, Softball and Athletic Training program. 

John Martin will enter his first year at the helm of the Red Raven Baseball program in 2011-2012.  John spent the past three seasons as the Emporia State University Hornets pitching coach. A catcher, John played three years as a member of the Hornets squad and was the 2006 Roger Newell Award Winner. He played his freshman season at Hutchinson Community College.  John coached the Liberal Beejays to the 2010 National Baseball Congress World Series.

Following his senior season, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 24th round of the draft. He spent time with both the Gulf Coast Dodgers and the Ogden Raptors where he hit .256 with 29 RBI and an on-base percentage of .343. In 2008 he played with the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League where he hit .257 with three home runs and 30 RBI.

Christie Ellis will be in her first year as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach in 2011. Ellis has served the previous two seasons as an assistant coach in the Red Raven program. In 2009 she was an assistant under Courey Feerer and in this past season she was an assistant for former Head Women's Soccer Coach Laura Swanson.

Ellis played three seasons at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, as a midfielder. Ellis has a B.S. Degree from Delta State in Athletic Training.

“I’m looking to recruit solid, talented players who want to work hard and build on what we have already achieved,” said Ellis.

Tamika Barnes will be in her first season as head softball coach in 2011-2012. Tamika played for the Ravens in 2005 and was named first team All-Conference as an outfielder and was second team All-Region. Tamika was also named Freshman of the Year for the Jayhawk Conference.

A Grove, Oklahoma native, Barnes played at NEO A & M in Miami, Okla. her sophomore season, and was named first team All-Region outfielder and second team All-Region pitcher. Tamika then transferred to Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo. where she played two seasons on the Lady Lions softball team.

Tamika has a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Missouri Southern and a master’s degree from Southern University in Secondary Education.  Tamika has been an assistant coach at Missouri Southern for two years and was an assistant for a season at Southern University.

Former Softball Coach Ryan McCune will be taking to the classroom as a Sociology Instructor and plans to cheer the team on from the sidelines.

Whitney Ryan will be in second year on the Red Raven training staff in 2011-2012 as she takes over the role of Head Athletic Trainer. 

Whitney has been working to improve the college’s Concussion Management Plan.  She will work with athletic trainers to give all athletes a baseline test for concussions so that athletes will be retested, in the event of a concussion, before they are allowed to return to play.

Whitney has a B.S. degree in athletic training from the University of Kansas and a M.S. degree in Kinesiology from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  Whitney is a native of Horton, Kansas.

Former Athletic Trainer, Rick King will be taking over as a Biology Instructor for CCC.
