Stoehr Named Silver Scholar on National Team

Coffeyville Community College student Karen Stoehr has been named a Silver Scholar on the Coca-Cola 2014 Community College Academic Team.  Stoehr earned the award from her performance on the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition which had more than 1,700 applications this year.

“Karen has worked incredibly hard and has mentored several of our chapter members,” said Eta Gamma Advisor Linda McFate.  “She has provided servant leadership for the Etta Gamma Chapter and the judges could not have selected a more deserving member.”

Stoehr will be recognized at the International Phi Theta Kappa Convention in April at Orlando, Florida.  She will receive a silver medallion and a check for $1250.

Karen Stoehr is an environmental science major and graduated from CCC in December with an Associate of Science degree.  At CCC, she served the Eta Gamma Chapter as secretary.  Karen attended CCC on the Katherine Smith Memorial Scholarship and achieved a 3.96 G.P.A.  She participated in the Digital Communications Department.

“Karen is an outstanding CCC graduate and has represented the College and herself admirably,” said CCC President Linda Moley.  “This is an amazing honor for her.  We are extremely happy to have been a part of her educational pathway and to have provided a stepping stone in her academic career.”

Stoehr has been active in the Coffeyville community assisting the Relay for Life Committee, Red Cross Blood Mobile, and the Osage Springs Vineyard which she helped to plant.  Karen transferred to Pittsburg State University where she will receive the Academic Achievement Award Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship, and has qualified for the All-Kansas Academic Team $1,000 Scholarship.  Karen is the daughter of Mr. Harry Apley of Coffeyville and the late Rose Apley.
