Godfrey Showcases Family Tradition

Jane Godfrey began singing harmonies with her sisters and brothers further back than memory serves her.  She began playing the guitar at age 11.  Music and art were the staples of her household of nine siblings whether at home in St. Louis or at the family cabin in Crosslake, Minnesota.

While unaware at the time Godfrey would later reflect on all those family traditions to begin writing her own songs while raising her family.  As a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop, she wrote and recorded “Thank You Ms. Juliette” which is included in the Girl Scouts of the USA’s CD “Sisters Hand in Hand.”  Jane currently performs locally and in the Midwest area.  She has made frequent trips to Nashville for writers’ night showcases at the Bluebird Café.  She released her first CD, “Choose Beauty,” in November of 2007 and is currently working on her next CD.

Jane Godfrey’s tour in Montgomery County will start on Monday, February 11th at the Coffeyville Meal Site, Sycamore Landing and Windsor Place Assisted Living before arriving at the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on the CCC Campus at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12th. She will continue her tour of Coffeyville with Windsor Place, Windsor Place SCU and the Medicalodge of Coffeyville on Tuesday.  Wednesday she will entertain residents at Pickwick Place, Asbury Village and the Dale Apartments followed by the students at Caney Valley High School on Thursday and the Caney Nursing Home and Guest Home Estates in Caney on Friday.

The public is invited to the 10:20 a.m. Tuesday Humanities performances at CCC.  The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Theatre.  For more information call 620-251-7700 ext. 2145 or 2038.
