CCC Medical Assistant Program Receives Accreditation

Coffeyville Community College is proud to announce the recent accreditation of the Medical Assistant Program offered at the Coffeyville Technical Campus.  This step toward becoming a CAAHEP accredited program makes CCC one of only four schools in the state of Kansas to have such honors.  Medical Assisting Program Director, Lisa Miller, and Health and Safety Occupations Instructor, Christina Tucker, have worked diligently to make the CCC program one of the best in the state.

Programmatic accreditation is designed to ensure that students in medical assisting programs receive an education consistent with standards for entry into practice. Medical assistants who graduate from CAAHEP accredited medical assisting programs are eligible to sit for the AAMA Certification Examination and earn the AAMA credential of Certified Medical Assistant® (CMA-AAMA). Accreditation is designed to stimulate self-improvement by providing a review of the program based on student outcomes.

Lisa has been a medical professional for 18 years.  She was the founder of Rapid Care Urgent Care Clinic in Bartlesville, Okla.  Her duties included medical assisting, billing, coding and insurance contracting, and staff management.  The clinic was sold to a physician group out of Chicago Ill. and Lisa chose to accept a position with CCC in the Emergency Services Education Department.  She was instrumental in starting the Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy programs in 2008. She received her Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management in 2009 from Friend’s University. She is also a certified professional coder and certified as a stress management consultant.

Christina attended CCC for the first time in 1998.  She received her EMT-B training from CCC and worked for the Emergency Medical Training Program at CCC from 1998 to 2001 as the administrative assistant and a training assistant. She began working as a medical assistant in 2001 for a local doctor's office; she later worked as regional supervisor for a local at home care company. She went back to medical assisting in 2006 and received her Registered Medical Assistant certification in 2010. She has worked closely with the Medical Assistant Program as an assistant, clinical mentor or adjunct instructor for many years. She has also been a member of the advisory board for the program since 2010.

National Medical Assistants Recognition Week is October 17-21.
