John Sherman has been a performer of traditional and Celtic music for the last two decades.  Early involvement with string bands playing traditional American music led to an abiding interest in the Scottish and Irish elements of that repertoire which led to a study of the native musical styles themselves.  Sherman will present a program that explores Irish and Scottish music and its roots in American music through song.

While Sherman has played a variety of instruments (fiddle, bouzouki, banjo and Highland bagpipes) through his work, his first love is the guitar.  He has arranged over 100 Irish and Scottish melodies for the guitar and can be heard on his three solo recordings, “Farewell to the Creeks”, “So Inclined”, and “Far Green Country”.  The albums have garnered airplay across the U.S., Canada, and Ireland. Sherman now divides his time between teaching private lessons and workshops, solo performances and a new collaboration with fellow string multi-instrumentalist Randy Clepper. Sherman and Clepper are planning to tour regionally in 2012 in conjunction with the release of their new recordings.

Sherman’s tour in Montgomery County will start on Monday, April 9th at the Coffeyville Meal Site, Sycamore Landing and Windsor Place Assisted Living before arriving at the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on the CCC Campus at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10th. Sherman will continue his tour of Coffeyville with Windsor Place, Windsor Place SCU and the Medicalodge of Coffeyville on Tuesday.  Wednesday he will entertain residents at Pickwick Place, Asbury Village and the Dale Apartments followed by the students at Caney Valley High School on Thursday and the Caney Nursing Home and Guest Home Estates in Caney on Friday.
