Two members of the Eta Gamma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa were selected for national recognition.  Lindsay Base, an English major, was the first Eta Gamma member ever selected for publication in the Nota Bene, the Society’s honors anthology.  Dezirae Hamrick, a psychology major, was selected as a 2014 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar.

Lindsay’s short story “The Song of the Morning Star”, was one of 26 literary works chosen from more than 960 entries for publication.  Nota Bene was founded in 1994 to showcase exceptional writing among community college students.

Coca-Cola’s Leaders of Promise Scholars were selected based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.  Dezirae Hamrick serves as president of the Eta Gamma Chapter.  Last summer she was selected for a cultural exchange program to Japan administered by the University of Kansas.  This year’s recipients were selected by a panel of independent judges from more than 900 applicants.

Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society of the two-year community college and vocational technical schools.  Phi Theta Kappa was chartered in 1918 and is the largest Honor Society representing two million members.  CCC’s Eta Gamma Chapter is the second oldest in Kansas being chartered in November 1949.
