Ching presents America between the World Wars

Michael Ching is a composer, conductor, songwriter and performer.  He is best known in the field of opera, where he has written a dozen one-act and full-length operas.  His most recent opera, SPEED DATING TONIGHT! Was commissioned and premiered in July 2013 in North Carolina.  Another opera, BUOSO’S GHOST has been performed by many companies and will be performed this year at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  His other operas include CORPS OF DISCOVERY, and MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.

Ching will present a program entitled America between the World Wars:  Gershwin, Guthrie & Ellington.  Ching was the General and Artistic Director of Opera Memphis.  He has also served as a panelist and consultant for a variety of organizations, including the National Endowment for the Arts, the Bush Foundation, and the state arts agencies of Florida, Massachusetts, and South Carolina.

Ching’s tour in Montgomery County will start on Monday, April 28th at the Coffeyville Meal Site, Sycamore Landing and Windsor Place Assisted Living before arriving at the Spencer/Rounds Theatre on the CCC Campus at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29th. Ching will continue his tour of Coffeyville with Windsor Place, Windsor Place SCU and the Medicalodge of Coffeyville on Tuesday.  Wednesday he will entertain residents at Asbury Village and Manor House followed by the students at Caney Valley High School on Thursday and the Caney Nursing Home and Guest Home Estates in Caney on Friday.

The public is invited to the 10:20 a.m. Tuesday Humanities performances at CCC.  The performances are free and held in the Spencer/Rounds Theatre.  For more information call 620-251-7700 ext. 2145 or 2038.
